FAIRFIELD COUNTY | October 9, 2000 -- * Marie Strelka, Trumbull girls. Another week, another good week. She had six goals and an assist for the 9-0 Eagles, and she leads the region in scoring.
* Alexander Far, Barlow boys. Scored all thre goals in the Falcons' 3-0 win over Bethel Friday night, making the difference in an even game. Also had two goals and an assist against Foran.
* Sohaib Qureshi, Shelton. You can say seven goals in two games against Hamden and East Haven isn't a shock, but you can't ignore seven goals in two games. He's scored all season.
* Kim Pepe, Fairfield girls. Five more goals and three more assists as the Mustangs stayed hot with three more wins.
* Caroline McGuire, Darien girls. Had six goals and an assist, including a five-goal game against Greenwich.
CORNER KICKS
* You have to respect the Naugatuck girls' out-of-NVL schedule. They'll play No. 1 Trumbull later this month, and this week played No. 8 Farmington, a 2-0 loss.
* Don't buy that five-game Ridgefield boys losing streak. The Tigers have been beaten up by injuries and have played the toughest part of their schedule.
OUTSIDE THE BOX
* The CVTC West may be decided this week. Undefeated Abbott Tech, which has been missing striker Jesse Canhao with an injury, hosts unbeaten and once-tied Whitney Tech Tuesday, and if the Wolverines can win, they'll certainly give themselves the inside track at yet another conference title.
* Will the real SWC girls season please stand up? Scoreless ties, more ties, Barlow's the hottest team in the state, Lauralton Hall's quietly back in first place Should make for a fun finish.
THE WEEK AHEAD
* TUESDAY -- Xavier at Fairfield Prep, 3:45 p.m. Teams tied in Middletown earlier this year.
* TUESDAY -- Bethel girls at Newtown, 7 p.m. A chance for Bethel to get back on track, or a chance for Newtown to stay in the hunt.
* THURSDAY -- Masuk boys at Law, 6:30 p.m. Law's much improved, but Masuk's tough.
* FRIDAY -- Trumbull boys at Fairfield, 3:45 p.m. Ah, rivalries.
