Make sure to see Illustrating Connecticut, a recent exhibit at the Housatonic Museum of Art, 900 Lafayette Boulevard in Bridgeport.

Illustrating Connecticut: People, Places, and Things explores the history and culture of Connecticut, highlighting the art of illustrators, many of whom presently live and work in the state.
Connecticut has long been called “home” by artists drawn to its proximity to New York City. A strong contingent in Westport and Weston has allowed for the development of such collections as the Sanford B. D. Low Illustration Collection at the New Britain Museum of American Art, the Westport Historical Society, and the Westport Library, the latter two with illustration collections on continuous view.

Bridgeport contributes more to the weird political landscape than any other Connecticut city. Chris Caruso is still contesting a Democratic primary that he lost by 270 votes. Bill Finch won that primary and went on to win election as Mayor of Bridgeport. And in the latest episiode, is keeping his State Senate seat for now.
This, has become a bone for Republicans in Monroe, who are within that senatorial district. From the Connecticut Post:

Shelton spent of the 90’s enticing corporate office parks to move to brand new class A faciliites. Now they are getting around to repurposing old factories into condos and rebuilding their main street.
For now, the property next door to Rebecca’s Miller new home is a pile of bricks and rubble. But Miller, one of the new owners of a unit in the Birmingham, a 100-unit condominium on Canal Street, couldn’t be happier.
“I think they have great plans” for the area, Miller, an interior designer, said. “I think its going to be another area like New Haven; with lots of little shops and boutiques.”

Sore loser Chris Caruso will have his day in court, again. This time it’s the State Supreme Court which will hear his arguments about the process of the September Bridgeport mayoral primary. From the Connecticut Post:
Caruso’s down-to-the-wire appeal to Connecticut’s top court threatens to send Tuesday’s election into a tailspin if delayed. Conservatively, state elections officials say it will cost the financially beleaguered city at least $100,000, suppress voter turnout for the four other citywide races involving 27 candidates and the 51 others vying for City Council seats.

Chris Caruso who lost the September 11th mayoral Democratic party primary in Bridgeport has a penchant for repeat behaviors. It was not too long ago, 2003 in fact, when he lost a mayoral primary to then candidate, now mayor, John Fabrizi. Then, Caruso refused to believe he lost fair and square, and then he filed a lawsuit alleging all sorts of thing that were responsible for his loss.

When the greater Bridgeport area executives, otherwise knowns as the political flunkies who serve as mayors and first selectmen gathered in Trumbull yesterday, economic development was on their minds. But also they were talking about regional cooperation concerning education. Sort of.
Most of the mayors and first selectmen agreed that regional cooperation between their communities could play a role in equalizing the educational opportunities between urban and suburban schools.
The bigger responsibility for educational equity, however, said Trumbull First Selectman Raymond G. Baldwin Jr., lies with the state.

For those watching the 4th CD race for signs of that Chris Shays can be defeated next year, look no farther than Bridgeport’s mayoral primary. The Democratic voters have spoken and they have said, “we’re staying home.” The signs were there if you knew where to look. The liberal-er candidate, Chris Caruso was backed by the chair of the Bridgeport Republican party. I should say, former chair, because Torres’ stunt of encouraging Republicans to switch parties cost him is chairmanship after he ran a registration drive in his Harborview Market for Caruso.
So what did Torres know that even Caruso and Finch didn’t? That Bridgeport’s Democrats weren’t going to come out and vote. Which was evident when in August of 2006, Bridgeport’s Democrats narrowly, by about 300 votes, picked Lieberman over Lamont.

Or maybe not. Caruso, according to the Connecticut Post, plans on challenging the results.
As of late last night, results showed Caruso trailing state Sen. Bill Finch, the Democrat Party-endorsed candidate, in the primary election for mayor.
But at 10 p.m., Caruso was not prepared to concede nor was he ready to address the crowd of about 300 gathered at Roberto’s Restaurant.
Not once were there any screams of joy.
Not once were there any shouts of enthusiasm or encouragement ringing through the refurbished one-time bank.
Not once were any polling results read.
