Coup De Grace, LWV Special Meeting

March 11, 2010

Perennial gadfly Diane Lauricella has been brandishing her League of Women credentials on many civic issues, but all that may come to a crashing halt, as the state chapter of the LVW has decided it was time to intervene. A confidential email to past and current members of the Norwalk LWV outlines the reasons:

  • During the past several years, the League of Women Voters of Norwalk has not been fulfilling the minimum requirements of a functioning League. Despite repeated promises from the current leadership
  • an annual meeting has not been convened
  • a budget
  • a slate proposed by a Nominating Committee

Those DOT Quality Is Job Last Guys Are At It Again

March 7, 2010

What is with storm drains and ConnDOT? Was it oh-not-so-long ago that they provided us the glaring example of what happens when you outsource with reckless abandon? Yes, the I-84 storm drains that went nowhere debacle should be fresh on our minds. Apparently not so in DOT land, because it was only a few weeks ago that they revealed that they kept on the  “pre-qualified” list of approved contractors and then awarded them a $2 million contract, the same company responsible for hooking up the I-84 drains.

Norwalk Potpourri

March 7, 2010

My apologies for the light posting this past week or so. There have been many hugely impactful things going on, and not much time to process and comment as I had hoped. So consider this a combo, week in review/week ahead melting pot of the interconected lightness of being in Norwalk.

Superintendent Candidate: Yes they have a finalist. Monday is the meet and greet. The most interesting thing about the process is the lack of documentation and transparency about the process. It was a joy to dig out the coverage of Dr. Marks candidacy in Newtown, Ma. But will the media here, the PTOs, the public ever get wired enough to create a community of info that is a resource to all?

Norwalk Museum Wants You To Explore SoNo

March 7, 2010

On March 10th The Norwalk Museum wants you to explore not only its new exhibit, “Transformation:  21 Artists – Works on Paper,” but explore SoNo too. It’s Museum Night in the neighborhood and the gig is simple. Attend the exhibit’s opening reception and get a Museum Night in SoNo Pass Card.

The card gets you a discount or, as they say, a treat at participating restaurants and businesses. Those participants include O’Neill’s Irish Pub, Kazu, Connie B.’s, M & M Cigar and Gift, The Brewhouse and Thomas K. Libby. The idea behind the card, according to Soo Gunn, curator of the Norwalk Museum, is to get patrons of the museum to mingle with the merchants in SoNo. She plans to add more merchants as they close in on the date. The SoNo Pass Card is valid only the night of the 10th.

Connectivity In Norwalk, The Master Plan

March 5, 2010

So many questions, so little time, in a way development in Norwalk has been like a Willie Wonka experiment, bit by bit things happen and everyone wants to know why and when. The Norwalk Redevelopment Agency wants to change all that, and so they’ve started down the path of examining how all the redevelopment areas, which stretch from Wall Street down to the South Norwalk Train Station along the West Ave. corridor, should work together. The governmental way of looking at it is called the Connectivity Master Plan.
