#200, I am not online for fans. My question was a legitimate one . You simply did not have to answer.

Piqued I too am not here for fans just to make points I feel are important because I have a vested interest in Norwalk Public schools as both a teacher and a resident. That said, I just feel that many people jump to race as a way to defend someone rather than facts (specifically Moore and Sumpter) on this board. The facts about those two are pretty concrete and they are not good. That said, I did not read your post (#188) and If I had I think my response would have been different so I apologize. However, the fact remains that those two get a lot of time here because of who they are and what they do. Its not unlike other service positions where you tend to only hear the bad. You don’t here about Palmore (West Rocks), Bell-Johnson (Nathan Hale) or James Martinez (Was at Roton then left to take over an Elementary School) which tells me that they are doing something right. You also brought up Ramos who name has been mentioned on East Ave as a possible Corda successor.

Ramos, nice guy, talks a real lot, doesn’t get much done, been in Bridgeport for several years, enough said.

If anyone is thinking about Ramos as a successor, I ask only one thing: What are his accomplishments that have resulted in greatly improved student outcomes? If there are solid answers that support his work, fine. If there are fuzzy answers that really mean little, stay away from him.

#204 – Your right. Exactly what has he done in Bridgeport? That’s the question. How do we even know if he wants to come back to Norwalk anyway. You’re trying to tell me that in a nationwide search, the two best candidates are Ramos and Dadonna as a super. How many people across the nation will apply? Maybe 200 and the two best are right under our noses! Come on.

This BOE doesn’t want to do a search at all. They have their pick. They don’t even think they have to post a job and follow legalities. So, what is on the agenda for the meeting tonight?

It’s official – on the NPS website – they are interviewing a single candidate for interim superintendent tonight at 6:30. Gee, how did we all miss the posting – internal or external???

There is no requirement for a posting for an interim position.

9 Hello-o July 7, 2009 7:12 pm at 7:12 pm

There is an ancient saying that goes: “If you wish to invest in precious stones, it is unwise to ask a fish vendor for his opinion.”

The members of the BOE have NO EXPERTISE in education and yet their opinions rule the educational system in Norwalk. Why then is it so surprising that a mess exists. This is not to criticize but to state a fact.

The mayor is an “ex-officio” member of the BOE. He needs to start attending meetings and inject some leadership. Then he and the Council need to revise the rules and duties related to the BOE. If there is any hope for change and any hope for a new superintendent to be successful, he/she can not be micro-managed by the BOE. Change equals pain and there will be unhappy employees, teachers, parents, etc. BUT, a new super needs to know the mayor and council and BOE are supportive.

RE: #158, #161 etc.

Clearly my use of the modifier ‘young’ was misconstrued. I should have clarified that I was referring to a state of mind.

Older, wiser, vigorous teachers should be treated as a protected species! Burnt-out, whiny, bitter, hostile, entitlement hunting, not-in-my-job-description, ‘education professionals’ would have a difficult time with the necessary reforms.

Reforms is a mild word for the changes that need to be made. that’s why I said it would take two years.

Someone asked what school I work at… heh-heh-heh! I do not work in the NPS, wouldn’t dream of it! No, I work in the private sector. I have responsibilities, and accountability; the two major characteristics that are missing from the government school system.

Tenure is a concept that, like PATCO, has outlived its usefulness, and caused its own destruction. If a teacher is seeking tenure, (s)he should do it at any of the great universities.

What are the goals of the NPS? There are several, but which are the important ones, and which are the consequential? I believe the primary goal is to produce well educated young adults. Further, unlike the private sector where time is a variable constraint to be optimized, in the schools the full cycle is fixed to 13 years.

Before I close this note, I must raise a few more hackles in the readers. I will state that the quality of the feedstock varies over a wide range. However that is OK, because although there is a wish that the characteristics of the final product meet some idealized standard, the harsh reality is that there is a broad range of acceptable qualities that constitute a graduating class. Ooh — I can hear it… my ears are burning.

But I see by #207 that it’s all moot.

#208 – you sound like you have no problem with the status quo. You like the way this board operates – illegally posting their meetings a few hours before hand so no one knows what they are up to – you are either a board member or a friend of Tony’s.

Seems like it would have to be someone from central office since it hasn’t been posted internally or advertised.

According to today’s “Hour”, it was a gentleman “with white hair.” I’m guessing that does not fit the profile of any current administration. Any guesses?

My guess is they don’t think anyone from Norwalk would be good – or they know Tony isn’t qualified so they can’t move him up. Don’t know why they don’t see if others in the district aren’t interested.

16 Mrs. Peacock July 8, 2009 8:45 am at 8:45 am

214 – Yes, I have one. In reference to The Hour’s June 26, 2009 issue (re: “Norwalk resident, Barbara M. Davis, demanded to see Mayor Knopp on Monday morning at City Hall regarding a police dispatch incident”), the white-haired gentleman The Hour suggests is, in all probability, Richard Moccia, who was noticed riding the elevator at City Hall several times this past week.

Mrs. Peacock is making me feel like I took the Star Trek Enterprise to an alternate universe. At first glance I thought Mrs. Peacock did it in the elevator with a screwdriver or corkscrew or something screwy but when I re-read it, I realized it wasn’t Mrs. Peacock after all!! Yeah, but sorry, Mrs. Peacock, I somehow don’t think that is a good guess unless I have entered an alternate universe. But good try!

Lynn Moore is a very manipultive .. Isn’t it a fact that she is being sued and the board has to defend her. A taypayers why didn’t the the board review her situations, dozens of staff has left the school because of her. She has thrown so many kids out of the school over the years she has been there.Theres a file up at city hall a mile long with complaints made by staff members and parents.
put her in a position like superintendent then there will be nobody left to teach kids unless they agree with her every manipultive ways.
She does not even deserve to be a janitor at the school even janitors have hearts and care about the way the school is and have very close relationships with the kids they would make better principals anyday.
