October 1st, 2008 · 10 Comments

This Saturday October 4th, between 10AM and 2PM it’s the Fire Department’s turn to hold an open house. The festivities and hands on demonstrations will take place at the Volk Fire House, 121 Connecticut Avenue. It’s also fire prevention week October 5-11. So make sure you change out those fire detector batteries.

Sparky will be on hand, a live burn demonstration and vehicle extraction are the quick highlights, but the complete lineup of fun and activities is in the PDF link below:

It was nice to hear Rowyaton was able to get someone to write applications for grants within their own department and actually recieve some grant money. Some Rowyaton firefighters are completing EMT courses and others to follow a great addition to the dept.Seems there is a new fire truck in the wings and when some new trucks cost over $300,000 dollars and can be used to cover Norwalk and other towns again a great plus in maintaining safety in our area.It sounds like it was a all a big plus for both departments today.

I’d be curious to know how Rowayton could write their own grants. Last I heard, Rowayton was still a part of the City of Norwalk, and the City has a full time grantwriter who is paid $40K to do the job - and no one in the City is allowed to write their own grants, they all have to go through the City grantwriter.

They were smart I think they sent a few members of the fire dept to school to learn how to write them the story is told. The Norwalk firefighters also did their own.It was suggested out here on the blog where our grant writer can’t find all the grants maybe instead of ranting suggest to others where to look what to find and how to do it.Sounds like they took the blogs suggestion they must of got off there ass and instead of bitching about the problems they helped. The case of the Norwalk fire all the thanks goes to one or two firefighters wish I could name them for the Norwalk grants anybody can name them its worth another thank you.Did they go thru the grant writer have them tell us i don’t know.

The Museum also had grants they could of applied for but I think the Norwalk grant writer was busy and just couldn’t help a shame who cares who is in charge money lost when now money is not abundant is a loss.

Whatever the rules are most dept heads don’t abide by them why should anyone else when it comes to who is allowed to help the city.I know of one grant that is pending I doubt city hall knows about. What shall we do give back the money?
