First Taxing District Loses General Manager

So what’s going on over in the first taxing district these days? Word on the grapevine is that they are looking for a new general manager as the most recent general manager has resigned. Is this the third one in three years? Delving into the previous coverage of first taxing district news, we have my perennial favorite, Osborne Ave and its frankenstein road, the klondike park battle, and the “we won’t release no stinkin’ water usage data.”

All these lovely topics warrant the kind of investigative journalism follow through that I’ve been tinkering with deploying over here.

Mostly though, if you are First Taxing District customer, you have to wonder about operations to the degree that all these incidents are affecting your bills. Which is not dissimilar to the questions Second Taxing District customers should be asking following theĀ  amazing revelation that fire hydrants are only inspected every other year despite the national standard of every 6 months in cold climates. Which reminds me that a query about the first taxing district inspection schedule warrants a question.

Why did the general manager resign? Seems like they just can not get their act together in that district. What do the commissioners have to say about this resignation? Perhaps the fault lies with them. Didn’t they fire Frank Sheffalo and then rehire him twice? That was something my husband and I could never understand. Why would you promote and then demote. Something is unsettling about the inner workings of that office. Must be something in the water…

I heard that it was because no one can stand Commissioner Ken Slapin. No one likes him, but somehow he always get elected. Must be why the 1st Taxing District has low voter turnout.

His resignation letter had been on file since 2006, this is no surprise. Maybe you should acquaint yourself with the facts before making judgments.

Why don’t you acquant us with the facts ? I would love to hear why a resignation letter was filed in ‘06 and nobody acted on it, including the guy who wrote it, until ‘09. Can’t anybody over there read ?

Good Point #4, I bet only Mr. Slaplin knows the true details of that far fiasco. Everything is a big mystery. How does that man keep getting elected? What a sneak? Someone needs to do some investigating in that entire department dating back and start with all three commissioners…

Just go back and read the minutes. It’s in there.

Amazing how many people are too LAZY to read meeting minutes in this town! Everything you’d ever want to know is in there. Just READ ‘EM.

What minutes are you talking about Ken?

  • 8 Old Timer // Sep 23, 2008 at 11:31 pm

Don’t you believe that for a minute, that it is all there, if only we weren’t too lazy to read. I have attended meetings and then read the minutes and been amazed at what gets left out and what is recorded wrong.
I don’t know the story at the 1st district, but I am willing to learn. Anonymous #3 makes it sound like he, or she, knows. Why doesn’t he, or she, post a brief summary and educate us ? Is there no way to tell the story without making somebody sound foolish ?

Old Timer, I don’t see why #3 has to post anything beyond what they have already posted. Why is it that you can’t go back and read minutes from meetings taken in 2005, 2006, 2007? Are you that incompetent? If you were at those meetings - and I would venture a very heavy guess that you WEREN’T - then you would already have the info because the person mentioned their resignation quite a few times during those meetings.

Why don’t you call up a few of his coworkers and ask them, like Terry Rooney? He was employed by the 1st District at the time, and he would know. Better yet, why not ask the other two commissioners? You don’t always have to take Ken Slapin’s word on things.

Oh, and BTW, if you don’t want Slapin back in, then you folks at the 1st District need to show up at the meetings in which the votes are taken and VOTE FOR SOMEONE ELSE.

It’s quite an eye-opener to see exactly how many 1st District-ers DON’T show up for these meetings.

Has to post anything ? Of course not, nobody has to post anything. #3 made it sound like he or she knew the whole story and I asked for the benefit of that information. #3 has chosen not to do that.
I have known Ken Slapin for many years and would only be interested in voting him out of that job if I had facts that he should not be there. If you, or anybody else, has such facts, let’s see them.
