Thanks for the pix. Nice folk art. So I see Ralph Bloom in the background; David Park and Peter Bondi from the HC. Any of the rest of the HC bother to come out? How about Soo? Was she there?
-
I don’t know where YOU see Ralph Bloom, but he’s not in ANY of those pictures….Ralph NEVER attends events at the NM unless the Friends are running them.
-
Really? I thought that was him at the brochure rack in the back — 5th picture down. I could be wrong…
-
You are. Ralph hasn’t looked that young - or thin - in 25 years. Believe me, sister, it ain’t him. As I said, he never goes to a NM event unless it’s one he’s running.
-
Looks like the “Usual Suspects” attended.
-
Did YOU?? I bet you didn’t.
-
Looks like a lot of people “didn’t”. Where are the legions of Soo Gunn’s fans?

Holy artifacts Batman! The three people under 65 must have been pulled in by force, or were lost and offered free bathroom privileges, a glass of punch and a horehound candy. If that event was considered a success, the oyster festival will be a monumental tsunami of seafaring pride if there are 300 people attending. (Or is that the jazz festival? I get all of these monumental events confused)
In the meantime, for the twelve people who attended the “museums” event, at the expense of the citizens of Norwalk, I hope you and the histerical commission had a great time. This is yet another underwhelming attraction in our fair city which drains resources and returns little to nothing to our taxpaying citizens. (Oh no, not the Maritime aquarium too). Enough already…basta….no more….give it a rest….shut it the hell down! -
Wait ’til the Norwalk sports memorabilia exhibit! Maybe they’ll really pull in the crowds then.
Horehound candy… didn’t know they made treats for those guys. I had a friend in college who chased so many women, he could have qualified for that title.

The only thing of interest there looks like the little old man with a white shirt and black pants. He seemed to appear like he was having fun. If this was a major showing of folk art it was sort of sparse in it’s presentation from what I could see in the photos. At least they had fruit and vegi dip.

Hey Kurm Udgeon, if you want to complain, the least you could do is actually be one of the “three people under 65″ that show up at the Museum’s events. Then at least your complaints would have some merit.
If you don’t bother going, then don’t bother complaining either, because your complaint is nothing but a wheelbarrow full of BS.

I really don’t care who put the exhibit together - I’m looking forward to seeing the collection of Norwalk History as seen through the eyes of a passionate artist.

The exhibit has potential…maybe just a bit more planning. What’s the hsitory of each of the buildings he painted? What happned to the buidling? Maybe a photo of what’s there now. I think the postcards are there but you could do so much more. Maybe pinpointing the locations on a big graphic map of Norwalk. Type dsipalys with some graphics taht tell a story. It looks pretty ordinary. Maybe there’s more to it than I’m seeing and all this was thought of and rejectted for some reason.
And, yes, I would have gone if I had been in town. I think the Museum should be supported — no matter who’s trying to run it.
For what a good exhibit should be, check out what the Historical Society did for the Flood Exhibit. It opened in teh Museum and then was moved to City Hall outside Redevelopment. That opening really got the crowds out and won awards. History does not have to be dull.
This folk art exhibit had great potential. The story in the Hour was terrific publicity. It “coulda been a contenda…”
Maybe it’s better than it looks. I’ll have to go see in person….

I see Doug Hempstead is trying to cut through the BS between the Friends and the Historical Commission. He hit the nail on the head when he said there is fault on both sides. Then up jumps David Park, Moccia’s butt boy, who Dick Moccia seems to keep pushing from one job to another just to keep him around like a lap dog. Don’t the Pubs get it? Mr. Park has just about failed in everything his mentor has put him up to. I think Moccia is keeping him around until he can run again for the 3rd district council seat, against Lindstrom who is a person that listens to her districts feedback and takes the heat for it from those who are cowards, and use intimidation to get their way. Lindstrom has done more for East Norwalk by accident then Park ever did on purpose, and she is in no ones pocket, which seems to be the norm on our city council. Well, Mr. Mayor Park is on strike 2 right now and seems to be screwing the Historical Commission up also. I Have you noticed that this guy NEVER had an original thought in his life. He is a parrot for whatever the Mayor tells him to do or say. It appears that the Republicans headed by the mayor do not want any one who is an independent thinker, or will question their manifestos. They have effectively squelched the Pubs on the council that have questioned the Mayor and HIS boss, into shutting up, no matter what their personal thoughts. Council members should remember that THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO DO WHAT THEIR CONSTIUANTS TELL THEM TO DO. They had also get out of the habit of condemning those who are not lemmings, BUT are doing what their district voters are giving them feedback about. The next time your district constituents tell you what they want, just tell them you will do what you are TOLD, and chastise those on the council who are doing what they were elected to do…REPRESENT THE WISHES, OF THEIR CONSTITUANTS. Wake up, and act like you’re not a bunch of hand puppets. Do not be intimidated by anyone, if you are, then you are a loser to yourself and to the voters who elected you…………
