Greenwich Destroys Wiffle Ball Field of Dreams

Maybe there were valid reasons to move the field elsewhere. But to dismantle the field without making provisions to install what the Teens created is just wrong. The Advocate reports:

After a two-week battle between a group of teens and neighboring homeowners over a Wiffle ball field the kids built on town land, town workers carted the field away Friday morning. An assortment of candles, yard tools and Wiffle ball bats, as well as an American flag, remained on the Riverside Lane lot.

The town has offered the youths use of a field at the International School of Dundee for the remainder of the summer for Wiffle ball.

SoNo Parking Updates

The parking authority held a meeting last night to approve changes to the daily rate at the SoNo train station. The plan they approved will raise the rate from $7/day to $8/day at the train station. But, they are offering a $4/day rate with a free shuttle service at the Maritime garage. Enterprising commuters might see this as a good deal. I’m not wild about raising the rates at the SoNo train station though, especially by a dollar. It’s one of those issues that fall under the philosophy of do you encourage use of mass transportation by making it cheaper and more convenient and therefor subsidize it for the greater good, or do you simply focus on cost recovery.

BOE’s Consultant Says Finance Expertise Needed

What can I say that won’t sound smug and arrogant here? The consultant hired by the BOE to evaluate whether a having a finance director is a good thing for the BOE concluded that there’s a lack of financial expertise in the Norwalk Schools administration. Ya think? The Hour reports:

At the same meeting, the Budget Committee also heard the consultant’s report on the finance office’s structure in Central Office. RSMI Consultant Michael O’Neil recommended that there be more financial expertise within the district. The district has been considering hiring a finance director to handle its approximately $150 million budget.
