A Little Business Education Needed

One question that apparently doesn’t seem to have been asked by the BOE upon hearing Corda wanted to cut the news stand in City Hall was how much revenue comes in from the news stand. We know, from The Hour report, that $40k was the operational cost. At least from the budget perspective. But a full P/L, profit and loss report, would have provided the detail necessary to determine if, in fact, the news stand operated at a loss. It would be quite the dubious decision to have cut an operation that had real world educational merits and didn’t really cost anything to run.

Fortunately the news stand will run under the auspices of a private entity.  The Building and Land Use Common Council Committee took care of that.  Apparently this BOE doesn’t see the value in maintaining an educational path outside of taking tests. Too bad.

Please Lord, help those at The Hour realize how badly teachers need the local paper to investigate the corruption in the Norwalk Public Schools.

Is there a pattern here ? Department heads, like Corda and Alvord, make decisions and choose to not justify them with facts. It is a “trust me” mentality usually associated with used car salesmen and always a clear indication they should not be trusted. I would not be surprized to find the newstand was not profitable. It did, however, generate some income that offset some of the expense. Most of that expense will remain, but now, with the newstand closed, will all be paid by tax money. There were benefits for the kids, but Corda didn’t think they were worthwhile.

I heard Dr. Corda is on a diet, and the candy was talking to him as he passed the stand. Rumor has it, the candy said something I like…

…and that was the straw that broke the camel’s back. No more…just like the Soup Nazi. NO MORE CANDY FOR YOU and YOU and YOU!!!!!!

Then Corda went home and played this and danced to it eating lots of candy.

    That’s what happened. True story.

Let’s see: an unpopular education administrator, who’s controversial inflated salary can pay for ten of these ventures and who pisses away more tax dollars in a day than this costs in a year, shuts down an educational enterprise, that he walks by every day on his way to work, that students rely upon for basic business education, that a few hundred of his colleagues rely upon for basic nourishment, that helps save the environment by providing basic supplies for a few hundred patrons who would have to waste gasoline to obtain otherwise, and that serves as a convenient meeting place for key government officials who help determine his fortunes and reputation. Truly, this guy is a dope.

    Breathe Anonymous 5 :)

He could save the city several million dollars a year by paying teachers based on their college degrees.

Paying teachers for fake college classes is the biggest waste of tax money this city has faced.

Budget Cutting 101 (BC101). With the exception of Corda and a few others, most of us sensible thinking people got an A in this course. That would include BOE folks like Jack, Glenn, Bruce, Shirley and Rosa. Poor Susan signed up for the course but went to the school book store and ended up buying the wrong class materials. Jodi was too busy protesting the war in Vietnam and global warming to find time to take the course. And Greg, well were not sure why he didn’t do so well. He sure seems bright enough. Let me see now that leaves one BOE member…….oh yea what’s her name? The one that’s still working of her GED.

    Turfgrrl:

Front page of today’s Hour features that the literacy sprecialists will NOT be cut from our schools as previously noted. Is it possible to start a new thread on that? :)
