Volunteers help enrich Norwalk’s urban landscape

As the tree liaison of the Spring Hill/Hospital Neighborhood Area Association, Diane Witkowski is bent on restoring the lush tree stands and greenery she recalls in the Norwalk of her childhood.

“Many of our magnificent 100-year-old-trees have been lost to development down through the years and the streets are far more barren,” she laments, rewinding the years.

Witkowski is encouraged by the city’s current urban forest initiative—Norwalk has been designated “Tree City U.S.A.” for the fourth consecutive year—and points to seven plantings in her neighborhood this spring as “a good start.”

Open to residents and non-residents alike.

Date:  Sunday June 22nd, 2008 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Norwalk, CT.

Cost:         $15.00 per vaccination (cash only)

Dog Licenses: Norwalk Residents may also purchase their 2008-2009 Norwalk Dog Licenses also at the clinic.

Duff Delivers Dollars From Hartford

The amounts, bacon bitsy, but still a good thing to the organizations mentioned. Since this was a news release, and Acorn managed to pick it up, whilst our erstwhile Norwalk media hasn’t ….

Three local organizations are slated to receive state grants to support their work, funding secured by state Senator Bob Duff (D-Norwalk). The Darien Library will receive $5,000 from the state. The Norwalk Historical Society will receive a $2,500 grant, while the Norwalk Community Health Center is slated to receive a $5,000 grant.
