Hot. Hot. Hot. That is the weather report summarizing yesterday. Already at posting time, 8:30 ish Sunday morning, it is hot. It will be hot the rest of the day. Now that we have that out of the way, we can get back to our usual commentary. Like, hey what were the Guardian Angles doing on Wall street yesterday? They could have been eager to partake in the Main and Wall Street Festival that endured despite the high humidity and heat. Or they could have been strolling in their red berets trying to make a point. All I can say is that anyone sporting a beret walking on top of a chalk garden should be drawing on the street.
The chalk garden was at the corner of River Street and Wall Street, courtesy of the Flow Of Art Gallery. Many children were pleased to become the proud recipients of buckets o’ chalk and by the end of the day, the chalk garden exhibited some fine drawings and an unfinished tic tac toe game or two. Congrats to Holland, for the impromptu flags of the world campaign by adding cheese to the mix.
The Bad Reps, gave a spirited performance on the Wall Street stage in the early evening. In keeping with with the theme of the festival, something like yesterday, today and tomorrow, or past, present and future, (its too hot to grab the marketing propaganda) they covered songs from decades past in their world premier. Nice picks with The Cure and The Violent Femmes.
While water was in high demand, and thanks to Aitoro and Xerox in plentiful free supply, beer was missing. Of course there’s those pesky open container laws to follow, but it was nice to see some of the restaurants and bars sprouting tables and chairs outside. I ducked into Fat Cats for an emergency beer infusion, and to cool off after a stint at the Arts Commission table. Lou Schulman made best use of the swag by giving away bright yellow reusable bags labeled with Norwalk Transit District logos. The Norwalk Transit District also gave WPA postcard sets to the Norwalk Historical Society table. The Norwalk historical Society featured a pictorial historic overview of Wall Street. Which reminds me that those interested can review the history of the great Norwalk flood of ‘55 at City Hall on the second floor. Or click the link above to read about on the Norwalk River Watershed Association web site.
And what would a post about Norwalk be without political flunkie sightings. The Common Council was well represented with Richard Bonnenfant snapping pictures, Rick McQuaid wheeling offspring, and Amanda Brown cheering on the Bad Reps, fronted by Norwalk’s State Rep Chris Perone. State Reps Larry Cafero and Bruce Morris were on hand as well. Earlier Mayor Moccia made the rounds. The only blatant campaign activity was provided by the Chris Shays table, but I didn’t see if Shays or his congressional opponent Jim Himes were on hand. The big political news yesterday was the official end to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.
If you got pix of the fest or anything else worth sharing send them in. Otherwise enjoy another hot day.
