West Rocks Moore Woman of the Year

The Carver center is honoring Dr. Lynne Moore for … something. Nina Sen reports for the Hour:

“I was stunned,” Moore said. “I was just shocked by the letter because the things I do in school, the things I support, are for the benefit of the kids.”

Moore said she’s made sure the Carver Center and her school have an ongoing relationship through tutoring, events and community service. When the Carver hosted a visit by three doctors — inspirational speakers who told students to achieve their dreams regardless of their low-income surroundings — much of the crowd was students from West Rocks.

“(Moore) was an easy choice for Carver,” said Novelette Peterkin, executive director of the Carver Center. “My staff refers to her as a person with clarity of vision. She’s very dedicated, very committed.”

Moore credits her positive outlook as the reason she was chosen for the honor.

“I’m a can-do person,” she said. “I don’t start by seeing any task as impossible.”

In a school as large and diverse as West Rocks — Norwalk’s largest middle school with 808 students and about 100 staff members — Moore is often seen at the school past 5 p.m. And she’s at almost every student event.

Yet, yet, yet, rate my teacher reports somewhat differently:

I hate her she makes me miserable.

Are there two Dr Lynn Moores ? The Lady described in the Hour today must have an evil twin who fills in for her at the school. How long wil it take for somebody to name her in an unfair labor practice charge before the State Labor Bd. ?

  • 2 Very Concerned // Jun 7, 2008 at 3:37 pm

Those comments are pretty scary don’t you think?
What is the Carver Center thinking? I can’t believe they would give an award like this out to Lynne Moore. Did they think of asking the teachers and the students about her before they made this decision?

  • 3 Anonymous // Jun 7, 2008 at 5:06 pm

What are they thinking? This women is crazy! Has anyone looked up all the stuff about her before she came to Norwalk? Yup, you can google it and you can find comments from people at the districts she was prior to Norwalk on this site. Who’s brilliant idea was this award?

  • 4 Layla // Jun 7, 2008 at 5:48 pm

Is it possible that the Carver has no idea of:

    1. What a vindictive, manipulative liar this woman is.

    2. How she has run West Rocks into the ground and the scores keep going down, down, down.

    3. That staff leave the school like rats off a sinking ship.

Where have they been? How could they not know this? Not rumor…it’s a fact!

They must have been pretty hard up for candidates.

  • 5 Shocked! // Jun 7, 2008 at 6:05 pm

Sumpter and the Fuller crowd are behind this one….trying to take the heat off of dr. Moore…I think we better investigate her DOCTORSHIP…..or DOCTORSHIT!

  • 6 Layla // Jun 7, 2008 at 6:51 pm

    LOL…shocked, you said a mouthful.

  • 7 Layla // Jun 7, 2008 at 6:53 pm

Hey Turf girl. I think it was in an earlier article you posted. Where is the doctorate from again?

  • 8 Ethel Mertz // Jun 7, 2008 at 9:37 pm

Is she wearing braces in the photo?

  • 9 Anonymouse // Jun 7, 2008 at 11:55 pm

She’s shocked and stunned………..so are we!

  • 10 old-timer // Jun 8, 2008 at 12:09 am

Is this the same lynne c moore who settled a lawsuit against a school system in sherwood, Wisconsin in 1992 for $200,000 cash and a promise to keep the settlement terms quiet..? She had been the superintendent there.

  • 11 Layla // Jun 8, 2008 at 10:41 am

    Hey turf girl…
Are you taking the weekend off? Do you have that info about where Moore got the doctorate? Can you please(pretty please with sugar on top) post that info for me.
    Thank You.

  • 12 what is this rating system> // Jun 8, 2008 at 1:12 pm

I see some ratings on comments. What is this? If a comment gets a low rating does that mean it is removed? What is the point of it all?

  • 13 YouTeachMy Child // Jun 8, 2008 at 8:36 pm

Woman of the year? Simply look and see how many students she suspended and sent to the briggs middle school. She did it all at once and nobody stopped her. I am actually happy that my child was sent there (for a petty reason and my child didn’t genuflect to her) because my child thinks that the principal there is actually cares about my childs progress and is respectful to the students too. Maybe he could take over West Rocks when she finally retires becuase I have another three years coming up with her. I have no faith in or for the Carver people anymore

  • 14 turfgrrl // Jun 9, 2008 at 12:36 pm

Layla: Sorry, missed this comment. I may have had some biographical info on an earlier post, but I don’t remember it.A quick google search didn’t turn up anything, but should I get an answer I will let you know.

what is this rating system: The rating system came from another site, through the modern miracle of cut and paste it got included in the post. Sorry for the confusion. The original link:

Her Ed.D. is from University of Missouri, Columbia. Her husband may have been on the teaching staff there (University of Missouri)…That’s what I’ve heard.

  • 17 lucky girl // Jun 9, 2008 at 9:02 pm

I feel very fortunate not to be working at West Rocks any longer. Dr. Moore is the WORST person that I have ever worked for! I suggest that we all send the Carver Center a postcard about Dr. Moore. Their Add. is
    George Washington Carver Center
    7 Academy Street
    Norwalk, Ct. 06850
Her winning that award is an insult to ALL women.
    Lucky girl

Lucky Girl: We’re lucky to have you at our school sharing sunshine, flowers, and chocolate.

  • 22 Ethel Mertz // Jun 10, 2008 at 7:48 am

I think that many of us would want to leave our posts if this much negativity were swirling about us, wouldn’t you all agree? Goodness gracious…She’s really that bad?!? And nothing’s been done to get rid of her? And yet, there are teachers who are wonderful and leave under less harsh words. If I were Dr. Moore, I’d RUN after reading all of the entries I’ve read, but I guess I have “normal” thin skin - no thick hyde/hide (howEVER you spell that word, you know what I mean!)

  • 23 Know // Jun 10, 2008 at 8:30 am

Go Vote - it starts at 2 p.m.

  • 24 Ethel Mertz // Jun 10, 2008 at 4:33 pm

So, I’m nosey: Who’s the Union President?

  • 25 Yeah! // Jun 10, 2008 at 9:32 pm

Bruce Mellion, Sue DeLong, Ellen Gaber, Jayne Sardella and Alex Rossner.

Congratulations!!!!!! And I bet others will follow with their congratulations as well!!!!!

  • 26 Layla // Jun 10, 2008 at 9:41 pm

    1. You elected a man as treasurer who is currently suspended for sexually harassing a 6th grade student.

    2. You counted the ballots in secret behind closed doors with no witnesses.

    Congratulations?

  • 27 Yeah! // Jun 10, 2008 at 9:48 pm

YES. What happened to Peggie Loris? Why didn’t she tell HER story to everyone, why she really wanted to be president, why she isn’t at West Rocks anymore. Facts, Layla, facts. What happened to her at West Rocks? Why is she so angry at Bruce? Let’s leave Alex out of this for a moment. Answer my questions. I know she wanted to have a position and was denied by that principal, but I’d love the story.

    And yes, CONGRATULATIONS BRUCE!!!!!

  • 28 Trading lemons // Jun 10, 2008 at 11:50 pm

One doesn’t know how incompetent Bruce Mellion is as a Union President until you need him to stop a hostile working environment. He was elected because there are 18 other schools without her as principal. Those voting have only heard stories by the hundreds that have transferred to other schools.

Dr. Lynne C. Moore has a past so long it would take anybody weeks to start to understand such a mind. Middletown, NY terminated Principal Lynne Moore as principal within less than a year. The audience at the board meeting gave a standing ovation. The Superintendent called her behavior nothing less than abusive. When Superintendent Lynne Moore was forced out in Shorewood, WI she left a trail of nearly a hundred newspaper articles that highlight her manipulative ways. Those are just some of the facts.

Norwalk Public Schools tenured largely due to the incompetence of Bruce Mellion as a Union leader. Read The Hour’s article about Bruce Mellion’s survey attempt and how Moore was able to make a race claim against him.

West Rocks had the highest CMT scores in the district and now has the lowest. West Rocks has the highest staff turnover rate than any school in the district year after year, one year more than 7 Norwalk schools combined. There are volumes of information about Lynne Moore and the many school systems that forced her out within a years time. Some of it is here in the education archives of yourct and elsewhere.

  • 29 I smell more corruption! // Jun 11, 2008 at 12:05 am

“(Moore) was an easy choice for Carver,” said Novelette Peterkin, executive director of the Carver Center. “My staff refers to her as a person with clarity of vision. She’s very dedicated, very committed.”

Question: Are Novelette Peterkin and Robert Peterkin related?

Dr. Lynne C. Moore has a very long history with Robert Peterkin who wrote recommendations upon request by Moore for her past four administrative positions. (Shorewood, WI then Cambridge, MA then Middletown, NY then Norwalk, CT - three out of four of the localities above Moore was forced to resign or be terminated immediately. Norwalk tenured her.)
