The Advocate is running the preview of tonight’s meeting, which is a good thing because then I don’t have to do it.

At-large Common Council member Mike Geake invited Sliwa to speak at tonight’s meeting of the council’s Health, Welfare and Public Safety Committee in response to residents’ interest in forming a chapter of the crime-busting group in South Norwalk.

Sliwa founded the nonprofit Guardian Angels in 1979, when violent crime rates were skyrocketing in New York City.

Corda’s Hiring Process Under Fire

While things have seemingly been quiet over in BOE land, a storm has been a brewing. Faced with many vacancies at the administrative level, in addition to the many educational ones, the BOE has got some concerns:

Board member Shirley Mosby said at a meeting Tuesday night it isn’t appropriate for Corda to sit in on the interviews for candidates, which are conducted by committees of parents, teachers and administrators. Committee members may not feel comfortable asking certain questions if he is there, she said.

Corda said his role is valuable.

Chris Perone Announces Candidacy For State Rep Race

img_chrisperone.jpgI think all Norwalk candidates should use Mill Hill as their campaign launching spot, and then be required to answer an jeopardy-style questions on Norwalk history. It would make these events slightly more entertaining. But alas, the first part was true, Chris Perone held his announcement event at Mill Hill, but no game show was introduced. Instead Chris offered up a short history of some of the legislation he’s been busy working on the past two years. the highlight, at least for me, was the fight against insurance companies who desired to require people who lived in homes 3/4 of a mile from the sound to either install storm shutters, or pay a special premium.

East Norwalk Train Station Has New Bike Rack

Another bike rack has been installed at a train station, this time at the Westbound East Norwalk platform parking lot. As with most simple things involving public/governmental property it took the efforts of a dedicated biker, Steve Rappaport, the Norwalk Parking Authority, the CT DOT, DPW, Mayor Moccia, State Senator Bob Duff and State Rep Chris Perone. I hear a seal from the Maritime Aquarium may have been involved, but it may only be a rumor.
