Norwalk: Taxis In The News Again

Not exactly what the taxi contingent wants in the news, but …

The incident began at about 8 p.m. as the Connecticut Towing and Recovery driver prepared to hook up Yellow Cab number 19 on State Street, Sgt. Paul Vinett said.

Seeing this, Magloire Cayo, 53, of 25 Chestnut St., began yelling at the woman and jumped into the driver’s seat of the cab he had been driving, police said.

Connecticut Towing and Recovery owner Wayne Masone said yesterday the owner of Yellow Cab requested the cab be picked up because Cayo was delinquent on fees for the car and taxi license, owned by Yellow Cab.

When the tow operator came to the passenger window to explain what she was doing, Cayo punched her in the face and yanked her off her feet by grabbing her shirt collar, Vinett said.

Pulling the woman halfway into the cab and leaving her legs and feet dangling out the window, Cayo then drove off down Monroe Street next to the police station before turning south on South Main Street, Vinett said.

Heading down Henry Street over to Bates Court, where another bridge underpass guided the cab back to Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, the woman told police Cayo swung the cab hard to the right, seemingly to throw her out the window, Vinett said.

The woman also said Cayo appeared to be driving so close to parked cars that she thought he was trying to break her legs, Vinett said.

As Cayo pulled back onto State Street, where the dangerous ride began near the South Norwalk railroad station, a officer was responding to several calls reporting the disturbance outside the station.

When the officer pulled up, he saw the woman’s legs dangling out the passenger window. When the cab came to a stop on State Street, near Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, the woman wriggled out of the window, visibly upset, Vinett said.

Cayo is charged with first-degree kidnapping, criminal attempt at reckless endangerment, first-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace

Holy smoke- sounds like a scene from an action movie. “Ya can’t write this stuff,” I’ve heard people say.
Not a job I’d be comfortable with for sure. I hope if comes with health insurance!

If the taxis don’t get you the crime will.A shame nothing was said about the crime that happened on the platform in Sono Station earlier another victim of a crime as bad as the taxi story seems we need more police there all the time.Too bad that wasn’t added to the story showing a need for more protection.

Boy it’s a good thing we have the police station & “SUB Station” so close by………………. who knows, he might have taken her 2 or 3 more laps around the block before someone saw what was happening.
And everyone wonders why the taxis were “displaced” to the state st side of the tracks.

There is more to this story than was printed. Why would the Taxi Co. hire a tow truck to pick up a fully operational Taxi ? Did they know the driver was dangerous and would refuse to give it up ? Did they warn the tow truck company ? If that tow truck driver doesn’t sue and collect from the cab company, it will be a miracle. Lucky she wasn’t killed. Wonder why he wasn’t charged with trying to kill her.

#3 if you only could see what we saw last night you would realize when the bars closed last night there were guns drugs and injuries compounded by arrests in your local tax producing bars that makes Norwalk a wonderful city. Its disgusting what what obseved last night someone was using a video saying the Enigma was the worst in East Norwalk that drew every police officer we had ending up at Norwalk hospital with serious wounds by patrons.Guns drawn by patrons at club 77 and we are not even counting the stabbings and asaults last night. The taxi’s are the least of Norwalks problems where was everyone else last night?

Home pretending Norwalk is the city of destination for the tourism dollar?

Not Even the Hour and Advocate can report all that went on there isn’t enough space to print it.

disgusting is the only term the city could be described as last night.

  • 6 Anonymous // May 18, 2008 at 3:50 pm

the patrons not the police suffered injuries last night the fight went from the Enigma to outside the hospital ER needs to be corrected.

Back to the thug taxi driver who tried to kill the tow truck operator.
The original story in the Hour, reported the taxi driver was in possesion of a gun. Why no followup? Did he have a valid CT CCW? If not, why wasn’t he charged?
It’s only going to get worse until someone gets smart and comes up with a “real” plan. How about a honest to goodness “Taxi Stand”??? A canopy where the taxi’s could wait for fares with facilities appropriate for the business on the East Bound Side of the tracks where it should be. Or maybe the parking authority has plans for some condo’s????

You may want to ask the owners of a new parking lot close to the new taxi stand. You can park there pay your water or electric bill and walk back to your car.Its not city owned but is cheaper than the Haviland lot the webster lot or the parking garage.Taxi stand is a great idea.

Follow up? we are still waiting to hear about the stabbing victims over the weekend,What do you think The Hour and Advocate does stay on top of Norwalks news?Todays Hour contained nothing about the weekend news we can’t get current news follow ups simply doesn’t happen.

Another WACK JOB by the leadership at City Hall regarding this taxi situation.

  • 10 1 Of The SMD 3 // May 20, 2008 at 9:17 pm

    A new development is afoot…………
Rumor has it the electric works has run a couple of spare electric cables under the fence on state st next to the flower beds. The next taxi driver who decides to relieve himself on the tulips may find it a very “shocking” experience to say the least.

Well we had the first meeting of members of the 2nd taxing district, taxi cab drivers, owners & commuters, as well as council people (3) & even a state rep. A lot of good info was exchanged & the mayor is going to be sorry he wasn’t there to listen & learn about all the complaints & issues that were discussed. Now there will have to be another meeting & the people weren’t happy that the mayor couldn’t be bothered to show up.

  • 12 J Halderman // May 21, 2008 at 9:08 am

Do I see a trend forming here? The Mayor did not show up at the Guardian Angel meeting, now he does not show up at the train station meeting. How can a man who has time to show up for pictures at the planting of a weed, not have time for these meetings? Another nail in the coffin for 4 year terms.

  • 13 Anonymous // May 21, 2008 at 9:59 am

Just like Rillings didn’t show for East Norwalk and that meeting was simply a pony show most who went sat through the meeting waiting to hear some truth something new. Some left that meeting to go home and read the news the next morning to find out they were duped.

Now the taxi cab companies are giving conflicting figures on how many take a cab, more of Moccia’s smoking mirrors for his followers will be here soon.

Its odd how facts and stats in Norwalk seldom coincide with educated decisions. Some residents are gullible, why would city officials mislead any one?

Knife fight at Sono Train Station was it again two cab drivers not agreeing on who should be president? We are aways reminded how safe Sono is of course there is more to crime in Norwalk than The Hour can report but who can pass up a story like this when promoting a safe bus ride to your car.
