More on Dog Poop

It seems that we just aren’t finished yet with the subject of dog poop. Today’s Hour provides insight about the peoples republic of Rowayton’s dilemma:

Attention: All dog owners who use the Rowayton Community Center field to exercise their pets should know that use is in jeopardy because the fund used to purchase doggie bags is depleted.

“I’m told they use 32,500 bags a year or about 88 bags per day,” said Edwin Carlson in his capacity as property manager. “There is just one box of them left and no money to purchase another box.”

The dog owners had built up a doggie bag fund to allocate $3,000 annually soon after they organized a few years ago to convince district commissioners that they were sincere about their interest in having the field dedicated to their use.

“I don’t think they are as organized as they were,” Carlson observed.

“Tell them some representatives should attend our next commission meeting (June 11) so we know where they stand,” suggested Chairman Edward M. Kweskin.

“We may want to use that field for a swimming pool site,” Commissioner Michael Barbis said facetiously.

I suspect that no one will be sending an invite to Kelly DeBrocky anytime soon.

Why don’t they refill their dispensers with newspaper plastic bags? I’m surprised the dog owners haven’t been doing this all alnog.

The dogs probably would refuse to poop unless the newspaper bags had a sailboat logo on them.

Can we please stop being so “gross”? How about using the term “Carpet Bombing” or “Land mine Distribution” in place of poop.

Heavens to Betsy! Glad we’re not discussing masturbation or anything “dirty.”

The pool will cost MUCH less than poop bags.

Why are there so few “proper” dog parks in the area? I come from Northern Virginia, and am looking to move somewhere I can take my dog.

It’s thoroughly disappointing to see so few dog parks in lower Fairfield area. I’m trying to find a permanent place to live, and it seems that Waveny is the only dog park that is any good.

    A few thoughts, suggestions:
    1) full fencing around the park
    2) high fencing, so dogs don’t jump over
    3) lights — who can possibly get home in time to take their dog out during daylight hours, esp. in the winter? Most Fairfielders have long rush-hours.

The towns in Westchester (Rye, Mamaroneck, etc.) are also poor.

What also kills me is that the towns are throwing poop (bags) in the face of owners. Are the townships so miserly that they can’t afford bags?

What about all the expenses they use for other park / rec programs?

That being said, dog owners need to use their noodles.

Back in VA, folks would take turns bringing their used grocery bags to the dog park. We’d put them into a mailbox, or simply tie them to the chain link fence. Then folks re-use something that already ends up in a landfill.

Perhaps the town mgmts would be less short-sighted and see having some dog owners in your town is a good thing.

Most that put their attention into their dogs have fewer kids or delay having kids. That means dipping less into all the other programs kids demand — sports, schools, rent-a-cops at the malls to kick them out, etc.

so rich people cannot afford bags?

  • 11 Anonymous // May 15, 2008 at 7:54 pm

You figure Moccia won off of votes from there can’t he get his grant writer to spread some wealth?

Maybe Rowyaton can sell tickets to the next pit bull fight South Norwalk kids have I’m sure that will pay for the bags and then some. The park would be ideal for such events.

Where we are on the subject of dogs has anyone heard about this new sport to hit our inner city? Dog fights The police have when will we hear about it as a city?

    To the “Rowaytonites”:

Bring some shopping bags from home for the dog poop. A lot of people that I see walking around the other areas of Norwalk carry those old veggie bags from the store, paper towels and a plastic shopping bag and then either bring the bag home or throw it in a receptacle nearby. Remember the old days (30 years ago)when dogs ran around wild all over the neighborhoods and they crapped wherever and no one complained? My have things changed. I’m not saying we should go back to that time, but we’ve gome to a swing side that’s nutty, too. Well, I wouldn’t want to step in anything.

I really think people should be able to remember to bring a poop bag and not expect it to be provided. You bring the leash, the treats, the water, the tennis ball and the dog, why not bring the bag?

This whole thing is such a load of crap.
