Norwalk: Papadakos To Challenge Duff

The Republican plan to challenge Bob Duff is simple, run on the issues that are impacting Norwalk the most. Thus, from the Hour:

Papadakos said more can be done to improve education and bring state aid to Norwalk. If elected, he said he will focus on crime, education, taxes and “fighting for more dollars for Norwalk from the state.”

The 25th District covers Norwalk and part of Darien.

Duff, a former state representative, has represented the district in the General Assembly since 2004. He defeated Republican Jeffrey M. Konspore for the seat in 2004 and Republican Fred Wilms for the seat in the 2006 election.

Although he hasn’t formally announced his candidacy for a fourth term, Duff said Saturday that he plans to run and welcomes the challenge from Papadakos.

“I think the voters deserve a choice, and I’m very proud to run on my record,” said Duff, who is the Senate Majority Whip. “I think I’ve had a very good, solid record of proactive leadership that encompasses not only voting on good pieces of legislation up in Hartford but also exceptional constituent services.”

Papadakos has served on the Fair Housing Advisory and chaired the Human Relations Commission until four year ago. In April 2004, citing frustration with the city’s pace in hiring a new human relations director, Papadakos announced that he would not seek reappointment to that commission.

He is currently a city constable. Papadakos said he has worked in hotel sales and finance during the past 20 years. Last fall, he opened Papadakos Realty where he works as a real estate broker.

Norwalk Republican Town Committee members will choose their candidates for the 25th District and other elected offices during their convention at City Hall on Tuesday night.

“We’ll find out Tuesday at the convention, if there are any others candidates considering it. But the seat will not go unchallenged,” said Art Scialabba, Republican Town Committee chairman.

Scialabba, who served with Papadakos on the Human Relations Commission, said Papadakos would be a “great candidate” and serve Norwalk “very well” if elected to represent the 25th District.

“He’s an independent business man, entrepreneur,” Scialabba said. “He has the time with a flexible work schedule, and has the qualifications needed to help out Norwalk, keeping state aid and limiting additional increases in state spending.”

Good for Mr. Pappadakos. Bob Duff hasn’t brought home money for Norwalk. It is a fact. His failures are well documented. He has failed at the job. Time to replace him. We need more than someone who only cuts ribbons and kisses babies. We need results. I would rather feel good in the wallet than from the screwing we get from Do Nothing Bob.

Tax Rob Bob must go. This tax and spend liberal never saw a dime that he did not want to spend. Time for change. Time to dump Tax Rob Bob.

  • 3 Anonymous // May 11, 2008 at 10:54 am

    Amen !!!

  • 4 What are TAX ROB BOB's Accomplishments ? // May 11, 2008 at 8:51 pm

Nothing ! That is right. Time to go ! He isn’t bringing home the bacon from Hartford. Looks more like bacon bits !

  • 5 Anonymous // May 12, 2008 at 1:01 am

Yep, he’s a little short in the bacon department.

  • 6 Tax Rob Bob Brings home lean bacon to Norwalk // May 12, 2008 at 3:47 pm

Tax Rob Bob is bringing home the lean bacon to Norwalk. He is a nice guy but nice doesn’t pay my bills when my taxes go up because we do not get our fair share from Hartford. Let him sell more houses and leave the legislature. Amazing how he sells out Norwalk on the conveyance tax and gets a free ride. Papadakos will beat him.

Not only that, Duff doesn’t stand behind a 3 strikes law for violent, repeat offenders. He said it himself, even after the Cheshire tragedy.

Time to protect the law abiders, Bob, not the law breakers. Maybe Papadakos will support the 3-strikes law proposal.

As a Republican who attends the same Church as Bob, I can say, he is a nice guy. After that, I have changed my mind this year. I used to cross party lines and vote for Bob, but no more. He doesn’t stand up for Norwalk and we are falling behind in city funding. I know many other Republicans that like Bob but can no longer stand his inability to deliver. I think it is time for a change and to let someone else do the job since his results are really middling at best. Press releases do not pay my increasing tax and gas bill.

I have crossed over and voted for Bob a couple of times because he seemed nice. This time I will be voting for a R. Nice doesn’t pay my fuel bill or the budget deficits that Bob Duff supports. Many of us Republicans have had enough of him.

  • 10 anonymous // May 13, 2008 at 2:23 pm

Duff has done nothing for us but smile alot while screwing the regular guy with his other hand that is picking our pockets. Time for him to go.

  • 11 Anonymous // May 13, 2008 at 3:06 pm

Bob was number two in dollar volume for the third quarter of 2007 for the Norwalk office of William Pitt Southeby’s International Realty.Maybe that was someone else maybe that was misinformation in the Real Estate news.

  • 12 anonymous // May 13, 2008 at 10:49 pm

    Time for Bob to go.

  • 13 Where is Tax Rob Bob ? // May 14, 2008 at 7:52 am

It seems a lot of people raise very good points and questions about Tax Rob Bob’s positions. I wonder why he does not come on the blog and explain himself ? I guess the truth hurts.

There used to be a day when people would stand up for good ole tax rob bob. guess those days are over. still waiting for a list of his accomplishments which would be shorter than a list of vowels.

  • 17 Anonymous // May 14, 2008 at 10:50 pm

Hey everyone you just cannot pin this on Bob he is just the puppet that was put in by the dems. If he was for the people he would vote for his family and their safety not for the criminals!

It is time go before you are voted out of office!

  • 18 anonymous // May 15, 2008 at 5:56 am

Bob is a puppet. Kinda like Charlie McCarthy. The question is who is pulling the strings.

  • 19 Transparency // May 15, 2008 at 9:20 am

All these posts seem a bit of “puppetry” themslves. Similar tone; similar language; build up and red herrings. I’ll bet the next place this fabricated “public comment” is going is to claim Duff is being manipulated by Knopp. Yawn….boring and irrelevant attempt to push another Republican flunkie. Typical of the local Republicans to think that the general public can be so easily led. This thread is not even worth the time I just took to respond. The planted posts are so transparent.

  • 20 anonymous // May 15, 2008 at 10:40 am

No challenger for Bruce Morris? How about Rick McQuaid or Herb Grant?

  • 21 Anonymous // May 15, 2008 at 1:51 pm

The Republicans will never run anyone against Morris. They know they can’t win and it would just motivate the traditionally democratic voters in the African American Community in Norwalk to get out and vote against all republicans on the ballot - a smart strategy on their part - just like they did in the last mayoral elections.

  • 22 Anonymous // May 15, 2008 at 10:12 pm

At least Bob brings legislative experience to the position, as well as a steady work history. Can the democratic challenger say the same? Mr. Papadakos’ resume suggests he is some kind of drifter who cannot hold a job. How can we expect him to be reliable in an elected position? Is there an independent we can choose instead?

  • 23 anonymous // May 16, 2008 at 5:13 am

What “steady” work experience ? Maybe if you call showing up to take picture for the newspapers a job. Third rate academic credentials (what college is that, sure not on anyones top list), spotty employment history (substitute, not even full time teacher), and realtor (part time job, ethically challenged by using his job as legislator for work). please list his experience as legislator because he has not done anything to save us a cent, since he doesn’t get us our fair share and pushes for the realtor’s interests at every juncture in Hartford. Papadakos will beat him. Easily.

  • 24 anonymous // May 16, 2008 at 10:31 am

I’m sorry, but I missed the first few posts of this thread.

#23 Were you speaking of our Mayor?

  • 25 Anonymous // May 16, 2008 at 4:31 pm

#21-you would be very surprised to learn that the so called African Americans you speak of are just as disgusted as the rest of us with Morris. What does the nationality have to do with this. the man is not qualified for his job at city hall and has done absolutely nothing for South Norwalk or norwalk in Hartford. The Dems would be smart to send him packing.

  • 26 anonymous // May 17, 2008 at 6:50 am

Number 24: you must be kidding. Bob Duff is the one .

  • 27 Anonymous // May 18, 2008 at 9:50 pm

    The one for WHAT???????????
