But wait there’s news out there. But a tight schedule reduces me to provide this hillarious youtube clip instead:

More news later, and stay off the crime.

In today’s Advocate there was a story on how the Politicians in Stamford got caught with their hands in the cookie jar. They had planned to put down layers of ground up rubber tires with an artificial turf over the top on one of the parks. This was a 5 million dollar job, but it appears that they did not get the appropriate cost estimates so the 5 million was a starting point. As most politicians do they figured the voters were too dumb to catch them and went ahead anyway. Guess what 2 parties bought law suits against the city of Stamford. At this point the project is stopped dead in its tracks. One of the parties that brought the suit said that “At a time when Property taxes in Stamford are rocketing straight up, the economy is in a Recession what idiots thought that the taxpayer could foot the bill for a 5 million plus Astro Turf layer over grass that had been doing it’s job for 50 years in that park.” The other suit was because of the fear of environmental damage caused by the rubber not only leaching into the ground but the toxic odor that will be admitted when the surface is hot and damp. This should be a lesson for Stamford and Norwalk politicians that the days of slipping these PORK PROJECTS under the radar are over. These types of Taxpayer money throw away’s have been a way of live in our politics for 50 years. The council and anyone else who thinks the taxpayers are going to put up with this crap any longer are going to get a rude awakening. The taxpayer in this city has had it up to their eyeballs, and any politician who thinks different is on the road to an angry back lash from their constituents. Your days are numbered if you think you can still get away with your back door smoke and mirror give away’s of Norwalk’s land and taxpayers money.

It will be interesting to see how those expensive Boutiques that are planned for the 95/7 development are going to do selling their expensive goods, to people who can’t afford to pay for heating oil and gas, let alone food. Yeah! Let’s take out bonding for the developers and see if Norwalk’s AAA bond rating is going to stay that way in the next 10 years.

Beware Politicians you are in the crosshairs of the taxpayers, and we are pissed off.

Operating budget features three more police, two fire lts. and a code enforcement officer, and holds the tax increase to 3.8% ? Is that smoke and mirrors ? Isn’t the code enforcement officer an existing budgeted vacancy, not a new job ? The three cops are also vacancies, not new positions. They will still stay under the authorised numbers. Will that eventually work out to any increase in numbers on the street ? The fire lts may be new positions, may be filling exisiting vacancies. A position for a GIS operator (computerised geographic information system) is being de-funded for now, but the city has budgeted over $10,000 for GIS software licenses. I hope there are people who use the software, somewhere in the City. Police and fire depts should have extensive, regularly updated, maps of sections of the city with info on roads, hydrants, storm drains, and buildings. GIS has the ability to display a map of an area and then overlay it with all kinds of other data and to update as often as necessary.

#1 - Speaking of retail space, why haven’t the store front spaces in the first phase of the Reed Putnam development been filled? Those buildings (across from the Maritime Aquarium) have pretty good occupancy by buyers and renters of residential space. What gives?

Great article in the NYTimes magazine today-”Is Urban Violence A Virus?” About a Chicago epidemiologist who is fighting gang violence like he fought infectious diseases in Africa. Which is, go after the most infected, and stop the infection at its source. A very good read, and pertinent to Norwalk.
