Learn to understand affordable housingThe public is invited to join Lesley Higgins-Biddle of Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) at the Darien Town Hall auditorium at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, to learn how affordable housing can be built in Darien.
Higgins-Biddle will discuss the definition of affordable housing, BMR and workforce housing in Darien; who we should help and what our target market is; what the “industry” is of affordable housing; and the role of non-profits, lenders and public funding.
Higgins-Biddle is senior program officer of LISC, which is a national non-profit corporation dedicated to supporting community-based development to build stronger communities. LISC is now the nation’s largest non-profit community development financial intermediary with programs like Connecticut’s in 38 sites across the country and in rural areas.
The program is sponsored by the Darien Affordable Housing Advisory Commission. For further information, contact the first selectman’s office at 656-7386.

That’s why Darien does not have some of the issues we have. They did the research and found that senior citizens housing and services can qualify as affordable housing. They chose that path and Norwalk chose low income housing complexes. Which group is responsible for more crime in their community?

That “ballet” looked like it was choreographed by Fred Bondi, with technical assistance by Sue Gunn.
