Following Betty Bondi’s announcement, Karen Doyle Lyons plans to seek anothe rterm as Republican registrar. The Hour reports:
On Tuesday, Doyle Lyons announced that she is seeking a fifth two-year term as Norwalk’s Republican registrar of voters. Doyle Lyons pointed to her seven years in the registrars office and equally long service as the Fairfield County chairwoman for the Registrar of Voters Association of Connecticut.
“As registrar of voters, I have created many new tools for use in the office and on Election Day to assure the voters that the integrity of the election is preserved,” Doyle Lyons said. “I am presently working with the ROVAC to provide training to other registrars regarding new laws and the new voting process. As in the past I will be training moderators (chief polling officials) for the Secretary of the State.”
“During my tenure I have worked diligently toward making the election process voter friendly and with voter outreach,” she said. “I look forward to serving the voters of Norwalk for another term. I wish to thank the voters for their continued support.”
Doyle Lyons has served as Norwalk’s Republican registrar of voters since 2000. She is a former city councilwoman, who chaired the council’s Finance Committee. She said she continues to serve the community by involving herself in elderly, handicap, veterans and children’s issues.
Unlike Bond, there are several rumored Republican candidates interested in the spot. No official word yet on who they are, according to Republican Town Chair, Art Scialabba. But the grapevine is rife with speculation that challengers will be working out the details in the near future. This might be the most interesting race this year.
