Norwalk: Republicans Want To Meet You

by turfgrrl

The Norwalk Republicans are hoping to encourage undecided, unaffilated and even disenchanted Democrats to a reception At the Norwalk Inn.  The RTC Public Reception will be held next Tuesday, April 29 at 6pm. Hrmm, okay insert your Republican at the Norwalk Inn joke there. Actually this is a good idea, inviting people to meet and great and get to know people who are involved in politics. Free food and drinks certainly helps. And Republican town chair, Art Scialabba, has resurrected the old Norwalk RTC web site, another good thing to do. I’ve added the link in the site links and you can read the RTC press release here.

I hear they’re handing out free sledgehammers to every attendee so they can take a whack at 93 East Ave. on the way out.

  • 2 Retired from DRG I // Apr 22, 2008 at 10:46 am

    Yes- good idea-
republican is not a dirty word- we care-
seems only democrats are known for caring- and giving free stuff- seems like buying loyalty with our money to me.
Rs have better solutions(in my thinking)- but the road is not paved with gold. Hmmm, work and plan ahead does not seem to be popular these days.

  • 3 Anonymous // Apr 22, 2008 at 11:20 am

Hmm. “We care” - is that a synonym for “Compassionate Conservatism?”

  • 4 Anonymous // Apr 22, 2008 at 11:48 am

Their mayor said last month in a article about the city there was no organized gangs and showed no vision of what Norwalks streets were producing in crime. Disenchanted Democrats are the ones who have died and are left on the books similiar to some we have for republicans at city hall but are still alive.

As for Norwalk, Mayor Richard A. Moccia explained to reporters the gang issue as a complex one that won’t be easily solved.

He’s right we are now waiting for a new candidate to show up,who cares what party their from we need someone who understands what the job entails.Ribbon cutting should not be a job description for the next mayor, proclamation days should be more than the month of April.

Someone has to tell this guy that the gangs are hear and have been for years and not just your housing complex gangs but your latin Kings and your others that have so much portable talent.

Not knowing your ass from your elbow text book example why we need leadership who knows city problems city solutions. He went the mayors convention in DC armed with what and came home with what?

Maybe learning about city crime and prevention would of been a better way of spending time in DC.
Mayor Moccia is a member of the Mayors Against Illegal Guns Coalition,[1],an organization formed in 2006 and co-chaired by New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg and Boston mayor Thomas Menino.

So where is the information he claims to have access to?we have guns in the city don’t we?He ran on this premise didn’t he?There would be at least solutions or suggestions offered right?

mailboxes for guns?don’t give tickets to the a yankee’s game for a gun that would be wrong.

Moccia defeated Knopp by less than 200 votes. Moccia first ran against Knopp in 2003 we had
disenchanted Democrats back then probably as well.

The farming of oysters has long been important to Norwalk, which was once nicknamed “Oyster Town.” Norwalk is Connecticut’s largest oyster producer and home to the nation’s largest oyster company.

Then came the sewage plant making Oyster town smell like crap and pollute the river ,yes we have done plenty under the republicans and the democrats are responsible for the mess as well its politically divided, leaning slightly Democratic. In October 2005 active registered Democrats outnumbered Republicans 1.3 to 1.

    waht is it now 50/50

Lets meet the republicans at Roodner court at midnight on a friday night or how about downtown Sono at 1:30 am sunday morning and talk Norwalk and its problems I’m sure not even the democrats understand what the real deal is..

At least with the Dr we would have had a surprise around each corner and something to laugh about and just maybe he may have done something about the city without cutting a ribbon or someones nuts off like the firefighters who will be looking for more next time in their contract. They are or are not doing the Oyster fest this year?

Too much for one mayor lets hire one for the weekends and holiday’s it may be fun to see more than one person adjusting the mirrors to see whats behind him when he is driving the vic leaving town when the next shooting happens.

suggestion is what we all should offer when ranting like this

Curtis Silwa after 30 years thats 15 terms in Dick years he has made progress with crime and cities why not invite him to Norwalk to speak? If its complex lets get someone who knows what the challengs is.

Whoa! McGruff the Crime Hog here! Ruff! Dick likes it Ruff? What are we going to do now we’re the suicide capital of the NE people are dropping like the flies buzzing around the mayor’s office or maybe thats the sewage treatment plant is there a difference? We all see dead people the stench in the voting booths when Dick ran against Knopp was probably due to all those corpses pulling the right lever now Dick is on the bandwagon with Chris Shays whats next a plane ticket to Baghdad to see how they deal with gangs there? Might get some good ideas but then again who knows maybe he’ll stick around and see if he can get a job there after November. Ruff!

Republicans Want to Meet You. Pretty scary thought. Sounds like the title of a horror movie.

  • 7 Anonymous // Apr 22, 2008 at 2:28 pm

Why don’t the Republicans try and find this guy…

  • 8 Anonymous // Apr 22, 2008 at 2:47 pm

Perfect! A good way to kill two birds with one (pizza) stone: catch the GPS thieves and sign em up as Republicans at the same time! A good fit.

  • 9 turfgrrl // Apr 22, 2008 at 2:54 pm

hrrmm.. somehow I don’t think either party would want to sign up GPS thieves. However, the clip is a good reminder about GPS thefts. I lost mine to a gang working the Danbury area. Make sure to note the serial number, and you have a shot at recovery.
  • 10 Anonymous // Apr 22, 2008 at 3:00 pm

Actually, I think the Republicans should watch this video instead:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tn2awbUaX9s

  • 11 Anonymous // Apr 22, 2008 at 3:13 pm

Well, they should watch it since they basically produced it. Nice aerial shot of 93 East Avenue if you know what to look for. Astonishing that out of all the Norwalk attractions being promoted, there’s not one shot of Mill Hill.

  • 12 Anonymous // Apr 22, 2008 at 3:22 pm

simply buy the new ones with lojack in them , we all joke around yet outside agencies have tracked some with lojack tech back to Norwalk last week from cities like Danbury be a hoot if you see yours on a yard sale table back in Norwalk. Its sad we all try and shift the crime away from Norwalk it keeps finding it way back here.Just had coffee with a cop he said another handgun robbery today sometime, now we are having almost one a day that seems to be more than the average last year for the state of ct.

By the way #5 second suicide in a week 15 attempts or threats to off one self in Norwalk in the same week time frame anyone want to dispute those facts?

  • 13 Anonymous // Apr 22, 2008 at 3:43 pm

Well if the Republicans prodiced it number 11 they should try learning from it. Maybe I will make a video showing clips of things they have not done to help norwalk.

  • 14 Call in the pros... // Apr 22, 2008 at 3:45 pm

Could somebody help the City put together a slide show that actually shows Norwalk to an advantage? At least, take out the shots that show litter and weeds in our parks. Maybe pay some attention to focus and composition?

  • 15 Anonymous // Apr 22, 2008 at 4:02 pm

Number 14. The truth is that the video posted is a cleaned up version of Norwalk.

If we made an accurate video to date the video would feature the trash all over Norwalk, the muti family homes that look like they are falling apart, broken sidewalks and more.

Have you ever really stopped and looked at the Adopt a Spot’s around town? They are littered with beer bottles, fast food wrappers and other crap.

  • 16 Anonymous // Apr 22, 2008 at 4:46 pm

#14 your suggesting a sideshow,#15 I challenge anyone to start at the Black Bear with a camera and walk to the Loft on a fri or sat night at closing of the bars. Then you will see what kind of city you really have.Go over the bridge to Fiesta and catch the last call there in the parking lot. Don’t worry you will be safe every cruiser we have in the city will be there with you.

  • 17 anonymous // Apr 22, 2008 at 7:07 pm

Sono at closing is a good idea. It is a vibrant nightlive with great food and bands for thousands and would attract many to the area on Thurs-Sat.it would show a bustling economy, with thousands and thousands of dollars pumped into the Norwalk economy.

  • 18 Anonymous // Apr 22, 2008 at 7:09 pm

Yeah if the Republicons had a clue they would recruit in SONO instead of making everyone go to that nursing home they call the Norwalk Motor Inn.

  • 19 anon // Apr 22, 2008 at 8:49 pm

Too bad they couldn’t shut down Washington St.and make it a walking street, or even that whole 3 block area. It could be like a mini Bourbon St. and be a bigger nightlife attraction with little shops geared toward that crowd.

  • 20 Anonymous // Apr 22, 2008 at 9:42 pm

your so lost #17 3 stabbings alone in the loft this month, multiple assaults on all streets, vicious car damage and thefts behind Klaffs on washinton street, and every cruiser in the city spending any windfall you may think Norwalk city coffers are making patrolling closing. Thats the problem when someone thinks they know the facts it turns out Sono is hurting and your talking like we are seeing a turnaround.

    you can’t be serious

The Norwalk Splash Festival may be dead in the water.

The May event had a 13-year run before it was put on hold last year. It remains dry-docked again this year.

Last year’s festival was canceled so the South Norwalk Business Association, the main sponsor, could devote more time to creating a SoNo business district that would provide special services to property owners for an extra fee. But that business district never was formed and somewhere along the way, the business association petered out.

Last spring, the association’s former spokeswoman, Marcia Powell, said the event’s signature dragon boat races and a chowder cook-off were planned for the fall to make up for the missed festival, but those events never materialized.

The association of property owners, shopkeepers and restaurateurs went on hiatus last year due to a lack of fresh blood and uncertainty leading up to a real estate deal that saw 28 addresses along Washington and South Main streets change hands for the second time in less than four years.

I won’t keep boring you with the last article The Hour did telling how the street is dying and its not getting better you must of missed that edition.Of course I could bring it back later if you like.

must be nice to have Dick pick up your tab its not working for the rest of us

  • 21 Anonymous // Apr 22, 2008 at 9:47 pm

Drugs are in abundance, the street walkers are back homeless has doubled in the last 3 months and our city is taking a beating but all is well in Lilliput. So friggin sad.

  • 22 Anonymous // Apr 22, 2008 at 9:50 pm

Already there are questions about how the Haviland Deck repair will impact area residents and businesses. The public too will be affected, its not just the parochial Norwalker that will be impacted. People from outside Norwalk come to SoNo to enjoy the area too.

    and the band plays on

you can move the deck chairs around the Titanic but the same thing is going to happen.

  • 23 anon // Apr 22, 2008 at 9:57 pm

20- you are crazy. Sono restaurants and bars are booming thurs-sat nights. Take advantage of it and market it. It is a lot of money coming in. The turnover in bars and restaurants has stabalized over the last few years. They must be making money.

  • 24 Anonymous // Apr 23, 2008 at 1:17 am

I think you missed the point #23. If the city hires 8 to 10 officers on party nights to help close downtown Sono on 4 hour minumum shifts and the wear and tear on the cruisrers that keep blowing belts hoses ect where is the cities profit margin? Let these booming bars pay for security and pay for extra details and give back to the rest of the 30 square miles patrolmen and cars to keep Norwalk safe.I guess your not considering all the other imaginary crime we are all led to think that is made up by one or two bloggers.

No one ever said the city dies on a friday and sat or sunday night its a draft drinking bar brawling crowd that draws arrests which also draws meals from a local resturant which again the city pays for until court monday morning.

Start adding up the broken storefront windows, accidents, stabbings, and vandalism each weekend and your talking some serious change Norwalk puts out for how much back in taxes?

Take your local corner store, repair shop or even gas station that uses no services all year long. Then take the calls per shift to the Black Bear,The Loft, the Mexicana,The Fiesta, and others who summond police fire and ambulance to remove transport and send to court offenders, victims and sometimes hurt police officers to the hospital. Then you have your officers who get to stay at the hospital and gaurd prisoners until they are able to be arrested. That figure has never seen the light. There was a stabbing victim then suspect was gaurded for what 1 month round the clock who pays for that?

Who just paid for the suicide victim who died at the Norwalk hospital? Who paid for the hospital? The officers who sit at the hospital?

There are homelesss who get rides to the hospital each night and back to the shelter and it repeats itself each day.

I’m afraid you see what you want to see and say what feels good but bottom line who is paying for Norwalks bars, homeless, and out of control visitors who get arrested each weekend? have you ever read John Nickersons police report not always Norwalk residents, not always kids the mayor can blame on the parents grown adults from out of town drinking our drafts costing us Norwalks residents increased tax rates for less services for our own residents.

Your right They must be making money and Norwalks taxpayers are paying for it.Bear in mind if the picture is painted on what appears to be a drinking crowd we as a city have learned very little we are in the process of giving out 3 more licences to sell more drafts in downtown Sono.

  • 25 Anonymous // Apr 23, 2008 at 4:36 am

    Someone please call Nurse Ratched.

  • 26 anon // Apr 23, 2008 at 5:51 am

24- don’t disagree with you on making bars hire the cops for that area. But otherwise ot is a thriving economy on Washington St.

  • 27 Anonymous // Apr 23, 2008 at 7:14 am

Better idea for Rethuglicans: take the event to a local graveyard. That way they don’t have to waste the food and drink on warm bodies and can just copy names off the gravestones.

  • 28 Anonymous // Apr 23, 2008 at 9:05 am

Another arrest on washington st witnessed around 1:30 this morning yep its a busy place for the police dept last call does deliver NPD customers once again.
