Norwalk: Blight Ordinance

The ordinance committee of the common council is reviewing the idea of a blight ordinance. An interesting idea, but one persons idea of blight can be another’s wild woolly garden. From the Hour:

Lacking evidence that existing city laws don’t address blighted properties, the Common Council’s Ordinance Committee may turn to residents for input.

At issue is whether the city should adopt an anti-blight ordinance, as favored by at least one resident, or if existing health, zoning and building department regulations adequately tackle run-down properties.

Norwalk: White Barn Theater Saved

When the White Barn Theater came on the market a few years ago there were fears that the property would turn into yet another cookie cutter housing development. With a theater, a pond and retreat like forest, a rare asset would have been lost had it headed in that direction. So a long process kicked off with the Save Cranbury group galvanizing to preserve open space and many people jumping in to get involved, like the Norwalk Land Trust.

Blockbuster and Circuit City Merger

Only yesterday I was musing on how long things to accomplish in government. Time be a relative thing. So when I read about the Blockbuster Circuit City proposed merger, I couldn’t help but put that in the perspective of convergence time.
