Something the Bush Administration has been using for target practice?

Everyone knows this one…..it’s the statue of liberty

  • 3 Anonymous // Apr 15, 2008 at 7:12 pm

Yeah, but do you know where in Norwalk it is?

  • 4 Townie // Apr 16, 2008 at 6:30 am

Could this be one of many old grave monuments located in Union Cementary off Ward Street?

  • 5 Secret Fotographer // Apr 16, 2008 at 7:06 am

    Nope.

  • 6 Homebody // Apr 16, 2008 at 7:13 am

    St Marys, Broad Street

    Uh-uh.

  • 8 Aunt Bertha // Apr 16, 2008 at 6:43 pm

Is it down by Cafe Pasture?

  • 9 Secret Fotographer // Apr 16, 2008 at 10:34 pm

    Sorry, no go.

I need some help. Trying to get information on Common Council Meeting. When do they meet and how does one go about speaking at one.

  • 11 Driver // Apr 17, 2008 at 5:39 am

Is this perhaps in “Stanley-land” between West Ave and the River? If so, I guess it will be soon gone.

  • 12 Secret Fotographer // Apr 17, 2008 at 7:29 am

    Things are heating up…

  • 13 Anon // Apr 17, 2008 at 8:52 am

Riverside Cemetery? With all the road work going on over there, I haven’t been by in ages.

  • 14 Secret Fotographer // Apr 17, 2008 at 10:32 am

Sorry, no cigar. Although it would make a great grave marker for the loss of our civil liberties under the current administration…

  • 15 Anon // Apr 17, 2008 at 11:47 am

Dawn, the common council meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays at 8PM at city hall. There is usually a period for public comments prior to the regular meeting. If you have an urgent problem, I suggest contacting your district council reps first.

It’s not at Pine Island is it? Soon to be eaten away again by the developers.

  • 17 Secret Fotographer // Apr 17, 2008 at 5:34 pm

    See answer to #11…

  • 18 Anon // Apr 17, 2008 at 11:39 pm

Dawn, and you can also only speak to an item on the agenda at the common council meeting.

I’m #13 Anon, not #15, and I have to say to #11 that just because something is old doesn’t make it automatically valuable. Stanley Seligson will no doubt get richer than he already is with this project, but he’s a businessman; the actual project and plan will make this city an incredible place to live and I just wish I could handle these winters long enough to see it come to fruition. Back in the 50’s a similar plan was proposed by a man named Sam Pine, who I think was the city planner, whatever, but THAT administration was not far-sighted enough to go for it, so South Norwalk became a blot on the landscape for a long time and downtown just became a blob. This will tie the two areas and make things very exciting. True, it would have been a lot cheaper if Irving Freese hadn’t been so short-sighted.

Hmm. I wonder if the buildings that 50 Washington St. replaced would be valued more than the hemorrhoid on the face of the city that’s there now? Do you think that Katz, the developer behind 50 Washington, claimed that it would make the city an incredible place to live when he pitched it?

I wonder if that building will be valued 100 years from now the same way that are the original buildings that line Washington St., and which are largely responsible for the charm and character underlying the successful rejuvenation of the area.

Just because something is new doesn’t automatically confer value to the community in the same way that it does the developer. Especially if the residents don’t benefit economically, such as getting a break on their property taxes.

But, the rape of Norwalk will continue as long as those in City Hall keep presenting their backsides to developers like a bitch in heat.

So, are we ever going to know where this is? I know I have seen it before but I thought it was near the water I wold love to know now that you got me stumped.

  • 22 Secret Fotographer // Apr 18, 2008 at 9:59 pm

Definitely in an area to be impacted by redevelopment.

  • 23 anon // Apr 18, 2008 at 11:23 pm

    somewhere in pine island?

  • 24 Secret Fotographer // Apr 19, 2008 at 7:28 am

You’re in the right neighborhood, but no.

  • 25 Anonymous // Apr 19, 2008 at 8:21 am

I’ve lived here all my life and don’t know where Pine Island is? And since it’s now a new day, why don’t you tell us where this is, SF?

  • 26 ownership and responsibility // Apr 19, 2008 at 9:12 am

I know! I know! Chapel Street at the end of Academy…

  • 27 Secret Fotographer // Apr 19, 2008 at 9:42 am

Bingo! I’ve sent Turfgrrl a new photo showing where it is, behind St. Mary’s church. Sorry we don’t have prizes to hand out. Would you be interested in joining one of the local organizations that promote the preservation of Norwalk’s history?

Pine Island Cemetery is down by the transfer station, just north of I-95.
