They do not appear to be through trucks. LaJoie and Fed Ex are located on 136.

  • 2 Anonymous // Apr 15, 2008 at 12:50 pm

The first photo shows two Lajoies trucks parked on both sides of the street leaving only one lane for the Fed Ex truck to pass on RT 136. This parking of trucks is not isolated its continues each day. In the morning its worse where trucks are lined up in the street in front of Lajoies for the scale at the entrance to unload scrap steel.Theory is when most companies can’t make the scale at the end of the day everyone is there in the morning when the children are going to school. Congestion becomes worse along with the regular morning traffic.

The third picture shows the bus stop for Meadow gardens. There are at least 5 if not six busses that pick up for high schools, middle schools, both Roton and West rocks side by side All saints ect. This is a highly congested area with all the busses from Wilson ave depots both private and city, pepperage farm facility on Woodward ave,Fed Ex ect makes it probably the most traveled road in the city with little consideration to children

What the pictures don’t show is the sidewalks they are also used for parking, at times vehicles park on the sidewalk itself so travel lanes are open again includes tractor trailers and cars being towed to the junk yards there is more than one service entrance along that stretch of road.

Not only is it the kids who go to school but the residents with strollers ect that go to the stores along meadow and woodward that are also put in danger by walking the very same street the pictures show above, there are at times the sidewalks are impassable.

Before it is suggested to call the police there are other photos where the crossing gaurd has been out and regular officers who take their place are directing traffic with the same traffic condition shown above.

Not for nothing but where the above pictures were taken it was in almost in front of Norwalks Fire station number 5 , where every second counts on some emergency calls it would be time consuming to wait for traffic to clear at times there are no other lanes to use and seldom have anywhere to pull over. Engine 5 responded to only 885 calls last year it doesn’t always refelct ambulance and police calls in the area as well.

Only last week did we have two accidents in the area one car was said to have been traveling over 85 miles a hour before the accident by the police dept so maybe this area could use some attention by our city. Next traffic stop they have on MLK they can slide over to Woodward ave and check the trucks there. That is a suggestion can’t simply bitch about something and not offer a suggestion can you?

Where in the city would this also be allowed?

Only on a street where crack dealers ply their trade in plain view, that’s where.

  • 4 Anonymous // Apr 15, 2008 at 1:28 pm

Vega was traveling southbound at 275 Wilson Ave. when he apparently swerved into oncoming trafffic and struck the Ramirez’s car, Velez said.

A third vehicle was almost struck, but the driver managed to maneuver to avoid a collision. Investigators took photographs of the scene and are using them to reconstruct the accident, Velez said.

Vega was arrested for reckless driving in excess of 85 mph and failure to drive right. The approximate speed of the vehicle was obtained from witness accounts at the scene, Velez said.

This was in last weeks Hour, there was also 3 car accident in the same place 4 hours earlier that should make this area a priority to our safety officials.

Rowyaton got the ban on no thru trucks,South Norwalk doesn’t have crosswalks, decent sidewalks, speed enforcment signs, ect.

We are talking a stretch of road that needs attention starting at MLK and going thru to East Norwalk.Maybe this is the thread for that.

#3 one has to agree its not Norwalks shining star but we still have infants children and parents who deserve better. There are obvious other problems there that need attention the haze that sits there on a hot summers day can’t be good to inhale all day as well but change is not always welcomed.

The crashed cars leaking fluids into storm drains waiting to unload ect are all issues no one wants to address but in the end who pays for everything?

  • 6 Anonymous // Apr 15, 2008 at 3:04 pm

Those storm drains along woodward and meadow st dump into Village Creek where the shellfish beds are. They are natural beds and not generally cultivated or harvested. The creek is a nursery area for shellfish reproduction that helps sustain a large, very productive, natural bed downstream and west of the power plant.

If you don’t care about the people who live there think about Norwalks shellfish industry.

McGruff the Crime Hog here Ruff! Its a crime against nature dont you think when Dick Harry and Tom let LaJoies pollute Village Creek what about Grasso Construction gotta be toxic metals in the ground there dont you think and what about all the crack vials that get washed down the storm drains and end up in the oysters no wonder that last seafood dinner I ate had a happy ending. Thats what I call taking a bite out of crime Ruff!

They recycle glass now the dealers have gone green.

  • 9 Anonymous // Apr 15, 2008 at 3:52 pm

why is there no crosswalks in that area of the city ?

  • 10 Anonymous // Apr 16, 2008 at 9:25 am

Somebody should check with LaJoie. Are those big trucks really LaJoie’s or are they just using Lajoie’s scale to weigh the load they are hauling (for the City)? If it is just LaJoie’s scale they are waiting for, Maybe the City, or the trucking company, needs to use scales where they load the trucks. They look like the trucks that haul stuff from the transfer station.

  • 11 Anonymous // Apr 16, 2008 at 11:19 am

There are three truck scales on meadow and wilson in less than a 1/2 mile of each other .The two trucks above say laJoie’s.The sidewalk in front of LaJoies has been destroyed Maybe have them pay for repairs would be a start. A crosswalk would be another advantage in that 1/2 mile.Where the street floods and becomes closed at times adds to the chaos of pedestrian traffic and this is a marked truck route.I don’t think the same rules apply as in Rowyaton any truck can use the road any time. Then there are your convoys of boats escorted by the state police to the boat yards on water street.Oversize or wide loads have a tough time as well with only one travel lane.Parking on one side would only be good if reserved for Meadow gardens they too have cars and no where to park for HUD housing is another obstacle.

Its odd how Shays,Duff,Moccia,Rilling and the like can go for meeting at Meadow Gardens and say they care about quality of life and notice nothing while they are their. The blind eye of politics exist in this area.

Around noon today, two very large trucks, with LaJoie’s name on them were parked on the sidewalk in front of their yard. Parking rules need to be clearly posted and enforced. The LaJois are not unreasonable, if somebody from the police dept spoke to them and promised lots of tickets for anything parked on the sidewalk or in a no parking zone, they would correct the problem with their trucks quick.

  • 13 Anonymous // Apr 16, 2008 at 9:05 pm

no one will speak to them old timer they got the contract for all abandoned cars and storage. A Sweethart deal means pissing on scofflaws there are other reasons but why trash all city boards out here tonight.Maybe thats why this was brought up months ago to see just what would be done.

The city ran out of areas to tow abandoned cars ,one commuter complained about the stolen cars taking up space in the city garages just recently.A dozen or so cars a week are brought to the city for rides and left on the streets for the police to tow a very lurcative job if you tow in Norwalk I’d say.The other is the estimated ten cars a day they tow for being illegal on Norwalks streets.

Nice that others notice but it won’t change, some kid will be killed and the won’t count they will be from Meadow Gardens.Of course you have your defenders of the city will forget the kids are out of school this week more kids walking in and around and on the street becuase of illegally parked trucks. It was conveniant to have this subject come up this week wasn’t it?

FOR GOD’S SAKE GIVE IT A REST, MR. G. WE ARE ALL SICK OF YOUR NARCISSISTIC RANTS ON TRAFFIC CONCERNS RTE 136

  • 15 old-timer // Apr 16, 2008 at 9:16 pm

Hard to believe the Police won’t take action. It shouldn’t matter that LaJoie’s helps out with abandoned cars. They are in business to make a profit and they do. They would not hurt their bottom line if they told the drivers the drivers would have to pay for any parking tickets for parking on the sidewalk in front of the yard. I wonder if anybody from the police dept monitors this space.

  • 16 Anonymous // Apr 16, 2008 at 9:18 pm

Send this woman to Meadow street she would be there all day.

I hear Zoning does get complaints and they are all from the same lady who has taken on the unofficial job of zoning enforcement. They can’t ignore her, so each complaint gets investigated and each property owner gets threatened with the law dept.(not by the law dept, but a threat to turn the so-called violation over for prosecution by the law dept) Some resolve the problems by parking on the street for a while, surely, an unintended result. I understand she even complains to the police about pickup trucks parked in residential neighborhoods and the police send an officer and tickets get issued, sometimes.

  • 17 Anonymous // Apr 16, 2008 at 9:25 pm

Not saying you were wrong just pointing out the game old timer, even the residents lack parking for housing including handicap spots that one would assume is mandantory for any public parking for HUD housing. What you saw today has been that way for a long time. You wonder how Rowyaton got all the studies for their hamlet and none were obviously done for the entire Rt 136 to East Norwalk. They did traffic flow but ignored safety and lack of signs for rt direction, stop and no parking signs ect. There is more to show along that route for now its Meadow street.

  • 18 Anonymous // Apr 17, 2008 at 7:40 am

Ruff! McGruff the Crime Hog is back folks with a “crack” observation of the critical mass that’s building on Rt 136 in SONO don’t you think that white folks in Rowayton have more political clout that po black folks in SONO plus who needs crosswalks on Rt 136 when cars don’t slow down for pedestrians they slow down to make that transaction with the dealers out in front of the housing projects. Keeps the po-lice with a reason for a job and don’t forget Dick likes it Ruff!

The traffic situation in this WHOLE CITY is a disaster. I’m not a politician so I don’t even pretend to have the answers, but this town has more rude, dangerous drivers per square foot than you can possibly count, and the state of the roads just makes everything worse. Does anyone have ANY IDEA what the state is attempting to accomplish the entire length of Route 1? Other than busting our suspensions, tie rods, tires, shock absorbers, etc. There’s so much trouble along the length of Route 1, which you can’t blame on the mayor (other than the fact that he’s very friendly with the state government and maybe could say something), that if the city were actually to start working on the roads things would just be a complete mess. The state needs to get out of town so the town can start fixing itself up.

  • 20 Anonymous // Apr 17, 2008 at 12:31 pm

Today both cars and trucks were parked on the sidewalk in front of the scrap yard it was still down to one lane with a big rig parked in a travel lane waiting to gain entrance to the scale.

  • 21 old-timer // Apr 17, 2008 at 7:44 pm

That’s not the state digging up rte 1, that’s CL&P installing high voltage power transmission lines. Another 345,000 volt line from Middletown (?) and a 115,000 volt line to Stamford from Norwalk. The digging up the roads is a pain, but they have to fix them when they finish, The other alternative, that they wanted, was to run these lines above ground on enormous towers. It is probably safer for everybody, if the lines are buried. They are nearly finished.
