Unfortunately the headline sums up the details that were released at this afternoon’s press conference. Essentially the ATF is investigating the source of the AK-47 found at the scene as well as determining if the bullets found at the scene and at officer Morelli’s home match, and were fired from the gun that was used.
They are not at a point where they can make a 100% determination that it was suicide or accidental. The investigation is ongoing, and will be thorough. Most of the questions asked at the press conference couldn’t be answered because of the ongoing investigation. None of the details concerning the guns found, shots fired, whether the crime scene was staged could be answered.
Our intrepid Iowan -explorer and Senator, Chris Dodd spoke in Stamford about infrastructure. Yep, my fave topics, roads, trains, bridges and the the stuff that makes them happen. The good part: He wants the federal government to start focusing on infrastructure. He says he gets it that all these local politicians spend much of the time fighting over crumbs. This is what we call identifying the problem, which gets us halfway there, on the road of good governance. Alas, Senator Dodd took a detour through a seedy truck stop somewhere along the line.
Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch says he could raise $9 million by increasing the state sales tax from the current 6 percent to 7 percent. He says Bridgeport’s property taxes cannot yield any more revenue.
Some lawmakers, including Democrats who control the legislature, say they are skeptical. They say a higher sales tax would depress retail business in Connecticut’s cities.
Sen. Eileen Daily, a Westbrook Democrat who co-chairs the legislature’s tax-writing Finance Committee, asked mayors on Monday to explain why city residents could afford increased sales taxes if they already are hard-pressed to pay rising property taxes.
The Norwalk Police Department announces the tentative funeral arrangements for Officer Matthew Morelli.

Last Thursday, the budget committee of the BOE met to discuss a variety of topics. One of which was the presentation by Ominigroup, a company that does essentialy paperwork required by the IRS for public school districts’ 403(b), 457(b), and 401(a) programs.
If you are familiar with the ubiquitos 401k, then these plans are essentially similar. They exist so that public education organizations get the tax treatment extremely similar to a 401(k) plan. Money that goes into a 403(b) plan are made before income tax is paid on it, and allowed to grow tax deferred until the money is taxed as income when taken out of the plan. Which brings us to why the 403b was created. Historically teachers could only invest in TSA’s (Tax Sheltered Annuities) and the 403b introduced the ability to purchase mutual funds instead.
As of today, suicide has not been ruled out. Essentially CBS 2 has been handling the story as if it was a suicide. They reported today that the autopsy results would not be known for 6-10 weeks. You can check the video reports, chronologically, at the link below:
Mystery Surrounds Death Of Norwalk Cop
Officer Mathew Morelli Shot Friday Morning After Investigating ‘Something Suspicious’
Reporting
Sean Hennessey NORWALK, Conn. (CBS) ? A local police officer was shot and killed early Friday morning while investigating what authorities described only as a “suspicious incident” in a parking lot.
The mood at Norwalk Police headquarters has been grim all day. I hit the 11 am and 4 pm press conferences looking for more details surrounding the fatal shooting of Officer Matthew Morelli. The investigation is still ongoing, and not much in the way of details have been officially released. I can say that just about every media organization has been all over the story thus far. So, what do we know?
