  • 1 A Norwalk resident who pays taxes!!!!!!!!!!! // Mar 24, 2008 at 6:55 am

    May he rest in peace.

    That being said:

The NPD just loves to tease the citizens of Norwalk. Several theories??? Puh-lease!!!!

If one of those theories is suicide, and it is looking more and more like that from what is *not* being said, then the NPD needs to be honest with the good citizens of Norwalk.

WE DESERVE TO KNOW THE TRUTH!!! We deserve to know WHY the NPD is telling us why we shouldn’t fear for our own safety!!!!!

Read between the lines. I know the NPD must be terribly embarrassed that he killed himself, but tell the tax-paying citizens the truth. This has gone on far too long. I need to know if my family, neighbors and friends are in any immediate danger and why/why not.

God bless this police officer and his family. I am sorry this happened, but don’t scare the citizens of Norwalk unnecessarily because of a SUICIDE!!!

I am outraged that the NPD thinks we don’t deserve to know the truth.

I apologize for taxpayers responce, he is a dope. There is no reason to believe it is a suicide and not a homocide.

  • 3 Steven // Mar 24, 2008 at 7:28 am

First and foremost my condolences to Officer Morelli’s family and to all of the people impacted by this tragedy. Your all in my prayers.

To the gentleman who felt it was appropriate to be disrespectful at a time of mourning I have one thing to say. Keep your thoughts private, and if you have a serious issue with this, take it up with your mayor, dont do it by slandering someone who gave the ultimate sacrifice for the citizens of your city.

I also respectfully request this webmaster to remove your comments due to the inappropriateness of them

It doesn’t take away what we have had for crime since. The man was a good man he served his country and us what more do we need to know if it was anything but protecting us. support the others and take nothing away from the fact the community hurts as well. Lets work on making Norwalk safe nothing will grow and prosper unless we prove its a safe city lip service no longer works or does telling us we are better off than before it doesn’t work anymore we are more informed than before.

  • 5 anonymous // Mar 24, 2008 at 7:56 am

Aren’t the State Police and Coroner making the determination whether this was a murder or not. Are we blaming the mayor and chief for how they do their jobs too?

  • 6 anonymous // Mar 24, 2008 at 9:29 am

The State Police made their determination and it is up to the NPD to do something with it. If there is no indication of suicide, then why the change in tone in the press releases and statements. Why aren’t there more efforts to hunt down this killer. Everything has come to a stop and they are waiting on the medical examiner to continue? If it is a homicide the NPD owes it to Officer Morelli, his family, the Officers of the NPD, and the community to step up their efforts to catch this maniac! Read between the lines people, their trying to skirt the issue and let us down easy!!!

  • 7 Captain // Mar 24, 2008 at 10:10 am

It all looks so easy on TV. It is not easy to know for sure what happened and it would be irresponsible for any official to talk about what he may think happened. Contrary to what we see on TV, all sudden deaths are not solved in an hour, some never. Guessing, based on rumors, is not helpful to anybody and can be very painful for Ofiicer Morelli’s family. We don’t know that everything has come to a standstill. Just because there are no press releases, do not assume there is not a lot going on.

  • 8 Taxpayer // Mar 24, 2008 at 10:43 am

I think that the citizens of Norwalk should protest at the funeral to let the police know that we are pissed off that we are not being told the truth. Either we are in danger, or we aren’t. And if we aren’t, why? Because he killed himself? The blue wall of silence, what hypocricy.

  • 9 anonymous // Mar 24, 2008 at 11:17 am

Taxpayer- I think that is a great idea. You should go stand right outside the wake and funeral home with a big sign protesting. Maybe go stand right next to the grave too for all to see.

  • 10 Andrew // Mar 24, 2008 at 12:20 pm

#8, you are unbelievable. If you want to protest, go down to the Police Station, but dont you dare protest at the funeral. His family and friends dont want to see it, and I certainly dont want to see that while there.

  • 11 Anonymous // Mar 24, 2008 at 12:57 pm

Protest at the funeral.? Because you are not getting inside information.? What a class act you must be, #8. I would very strongly advise against that. If you have a complaint that too little information is being released, go see the mayor or the police chief and demand more. Don’t be real surprized that there is some excellent reason for not telling all they know at this point. You would not be happy if they made a practise of giving out everything they knew on every investigation. A lot of criminals would love it, but it would be wrong.
Sometimes, even on TV, investigators need to be very patient and keep a lot of information secret.

  • 12 Anonymous // Mar 24, 2008 at 1:29 pm

#8: If one or more people are withholding information that I believe the public ought to have, it has nothing to do with Officer Morelli or his family. Protests at his wake and/or funeral would be demonstrating in the wrong place, and they would be further hurting people who are already experiencing far more grief than many of us will ever know.

There is no happy or even “better” version of this story. Whether it was suicide or murder, it is tragic.

  • 13 Anonymous // Mar 24, 2008 at 1:54 pm

Taxpayer, you are a very sick person who should get professional help immediately. Why on earth would you want to even consider protesting at Officer Morelli’s funeral. I can tell you that if I see you when I am there you can rest assured I will have no problem walking up to your sorry butt and telling you in no uncertain terms to get the hell away. If you are not happy with the way things are being handled I suggest you contact the State investigators office and ask them why they are not releasing information. Some directives don’t always come from local departments. Perhaps they should also tell you what evidence they found and how about maybe autopsy photo’s? This man is dead for one reason or other but it does not take away the fact that he spent his life serving others and deserves at least a funeral without conflict. Perhaps the next time a family member or friend of yours passes away you will give us the details of the services so the rest of us can protest because we feel like it. You are taking a tragic event and turning it into a travesty.

  • 14 anonymous // Mar 24, 2008 at 1:55 pm

No one has a right to any of the information on this case until is conclusively resolved. Do you demand information and details on every death in the city or is it just because you are hoping to be able to smear someone’s name. Come protest at my funeral or any member of my family. Come protest at any funeral thay I or my family are present at. Maybe you will learn something.

  • 15 Taxpayer // Mar 24, 2008 at 2:30 pm

You people wish someone in my family would die? That is how you respond to this?

Yeah, I realized that it was a sick thing to say, I won’t protest at the funeral (mainly because you are scaring me so much that you will know who I am and kick my a $$ or something….) But seriously, you are right. It would not be the time or the place. But if he did kill himself, and Norwalk gets a bad rap for this, and mothers have to comfort their children every night because they are too scared it may happen again, then you can bet I’ll protest.

  • 16 ANONYMOUS TAXPAYER // Mar 24, 2008 at 2:34 pm

#8 Just because we are taxpayers it doesn’t give you the right to anything in this case. You have the right to know your not in danger AND THEY TOLD YOU THAT !!! When they have the whole truth they will tell you, you are the type of person who would be the first one out there if your given the wrong info. Why don’t you for a min. think of what he has given up for you daily and what his family has given up. And the hell they are dealing with. Then you think of his daught’s face seeing you there with some sign. WHAT KIND OF PERSON ARE YOU !!!

  • 17 ANONYMOUS // Mar 24, 2008 at 2:55 pm

Don’t try to blame the State Police for holding back information. They are doing there jobs and will give out information when they know it is right !!! We as a town and state should stand together and stop trying to put the blame on anyone and we should remember THE BOTTOM LINE A FATHER, BROTHER, SON, FRIEND AND POLICE OFFICER LOST HIS LIFE AND HE IS NOT COMING HOME TONIGHT !!!

  • 18 anon // Mar 24, 2008 at 2:58 pm

#8 - Hey, I’m not too happy with the Warren Commission findings, meet me at JFK’s grave in Arlington and we’ll protest there until we get the full scoop on what happened in Dallas that day. You Dummy, You.

  • 19 Taxpayer // Mar 24, 2008 at 3:12 pm

Love the name callers! That definitely adds something to this conversation.

  • 20 Anonymous // Mar 24, 2008 at 3:15 pm

Taxpayer, no one said they wanted someone in your family to die, it looks as if they are saying that if there are starnge circumstances surrounding any and all deaths that the public should protest at the funeral until all questions are answered. no one I would hope would wish ill on anyone. What people are asking for is a little decorum in a tragic time. This is a man who gave most if not all of his life to public service and the circumstances of his death are not all known but that does not take away the fact that his burial is a celebration of his life for those who will mourn him. This is not a time for protest and dissension. There will be plenty of time for questions and answers later. Right now the Norwalk police department has been quite explicit in their telling us that there is no need to fear some crazy mad man is loose running around killing people. Please give the family, friends and fellow officers the decency to allow them to mourn Ofcr Morelli and start the healing healing process. This is not too much to ask.

  • 21 anon // Mar 24, 2008 at 3:23 pm

This death is a tragedy. Those who suggest that his murder would make Officer Morelli’s death more of a loss or more tragic than his suicide should know that their attitudes help perpetuate a culture of fault, embarassment and scorn in which mentally ill individuals are ever so much less likely to seek help than the physically ill. This, notwithstanding the fact that the mentally ill are no more able to cure their illness without medical help than the physically ill.

  • 22 anonymous // Mar 24, 2008 at 3:27 pm

Thank you and nicely said # 20. This is a terrible time for a lot of people and people need to heal. The Police department has answered enough at this time regarding what happened to this officer and I am sure will explain further when the investgation is complete. The first line in the advocate gives you what you need #8. (see below) Maybe you should read things more clearly before you post your selfish comments in the future.

NORWALK - The investigation into last week’s fatal shooting of Norwalk Police Officer Matthew Morelli has led to several theories, including suicide or an accident, police said yesterday.

  • 23 anon // Mar 24, 2008 at 3:34 pm

Most of you should be ashamed of yourselves. Talk about selfish. Never mind that someone lost their life - whether it was at his own hand or not. Never mind that a family and a HUGE extended community is grieving over the loss of a well respected serviceman and public servant. You are nothing but a selfish taxpayer that only cares whats in it for you. Proof positive is that you assumed someone wished ill on your family - when the reality is they were trying to point out how twisted your thinking was. God help you if someone close to you were to suffer any sort of misfortune as this family has. I only hope you never have to deal with someone as ignorant and small minded as yourself.

Maybe you can take a minute and think of his child that will grow up without a father. Or the parents that outlived their child. If you had an ounce of compassion - you would have known what to say and what to do.

I pity you and hope you stay the hell away from this family in their darkest hour. People like you give humanity a bad name. SHAME ON YOU

  • 24 Anonymous // Mar 24, 2008 at 3:38 pm

#22-If anyone has an ounce of compassion in them they would understand just how hard it is for a family to bury a loved one under these circumstances. If in fact this is ruled a suicide this family will have so much hurt and yes guilt for what has happened that it will be almost unbearable. If this is ruled a homicide the hurt will double because they will not be able to understand why anyone would want to take the life of someone who did so much for others. I was merely responding to taxpayers unethical rant and the fact that Officer Morelli does not deserve to be demoralized in death. Whatever his funeral service is, it is about the life of a man who chose to be a public servant because he believed in his fellow man and wanted to protect them. From all accounts he deserves to be eulogised as the man with a heart and a committment to those he served.

  • 25 Jane // Mar 24, 2008 at 3:51 pm

#1 - “Norwalk resident who pays their taxes” is also known as Sylvasta on the Topix boards. SHE is posting the same rant everywhere. I have tried to explain that during an investigation, random information cannot be handed out to the public. I’m afraid this concept has swiftly passed right over her head.

Matty was a good boy - I would been honored to have had him as an officer on my current hometown force. He was a Volunteer Fireman (all we have in Weston), EMT, Marine and, as a cop, was referred to, by a former “unsavory”, who dealt with him in Norwalk, as “fair and honest” - pretty impressive.

Love and peace to Mr & Mrs M, B and D

  • 26 turfgrrl // Mar 24, 2008 at 3:52 pm

While I’m all for free speech and rampant speculation, the post about details of a funeral arrangement are neither the time nor the place.
  • 27 Anonymous // Mar 24, 2008 at 5:10 pm

If “taxpayer” knew anything about investigation and proof beyond reasonable doubt, there would be no complaint about not getting everything the police know as soon as they know it. Don’t forget there are witnesses who heard numerous shots and a vehicle leaving at high speed right after the shots. Let’s leave the investigation to the professionals. When they have news they can share we will hear it.

  • 28 Yo madre // Mar 24, 2008 at 8:23 pm

I wonder if this will be closed casket or open casket?

  • 29 Homebody // Mar 24, 2008 at 8:50 pm

    Sadly it is a suicide.
NPD has to wait for finial State Report to release information. It has to be conclusive for a variety of reasons. They are benefits, insurance to family and so on.
    Nobody is hiding anything,
I hope for his memory and family they do not release it till after the funeral. Let the poor man rest in peace. He bravely served our country and community.

  • 30 willy wonka // Mar 24, 2008 at 9:41 pm

unfortunately homebody speaks the truth. They are not going to release it until after the funeral or so I’m told. At least it’s nice to know that there is not a cold blooded copkiller running around Norwalk.
