Finally, park cleanups so the kids have a place to go. I hope after they are cleaned that the city will follow up and maybe lock the parks at night like they do the beach to keep them clean.

We’ll be there, with trash bags and our favorite new product, Goof Off, to help erase some of the gang graffiti.

You would be surprised who reads this blog everyone. Just to let you know, we teens keep up on this and we learned about the Parks clean up and just went to the website, seems to us that there’s no willing people that care enough about places for kids to play or about our parks. nobodty signed up. Its just like no one cares that we have no activities on the weekends or a teen center or someplace to go besides hanging at the movies or where ever. You all talk about us as if we are the problem but its the people in this town who don’t care that we need things to do. You don’t care that many times this is the reason that kids hang in the streets because there’s nowhere to go. after looking at the site, and talking to somekids that already went we’re gonna to get our friends to go to these meetings because they seem to get it.

Outstanding ? , one of my kids told me last night he is writing the mayor as part of his writing project and he is only in Rowyaton. It is time we hear from everyone maybe some of the bloggers will listen.Maybe some of the bloggers will learn something from the kids they don’t seem to be learning much from each other.

Looks like the kids aren’t as uninformed as you may think. I have a question. Why haven’t we heard the mayor endorse this program? For all the publicity and positive feedback you would think he, as Mayor would be applauding the efforts Joanne, Rick and Marybeth have put forward to do something positive. Haven’t heard from anyone on this except those who endorse the program here on this blog. (NNHT has their own blog too) I would think the Mayor, Chief’s of police and fire as well as principals etc would want to be a part of a positive movement for the kids. We’ve read many times on this blog what a bulldog Joanne is for a cause so i would think these people would want to stand up and participate in a program that looks to be attracting teens, parents and others in a good way.

#1-6 We look forward to all the help we can muster. It is important that teens get involved in the community and what better way than feeling pride in knowing they helped keep places clean and open for people to enjoy. Flax Hill is a start but we want to get Ryan Park cleaned so the kids can once again enjoy the open space without the garbage and broken bottles, shell casings etc. that can be found there now. The kids need open places to play with plenty of fresh air without the fear of getting injured. If you have a teen at home send them or better yet bring them to help clean up our parks. Pride in our community goes a long way.

#6 don’t be offended but your not building or developing any lot the city , besides you may be suggesting the city pays for something . The people you mentioned are positive members of a what a city on the move is all about. Don’t get discouraged there are a lot of closet activists waiting to work for the right reasons send others to this site its not just about a vision based on outdated numbers its about our kids future its about the hear and now not 20 years from now.

We are not asking the city to pay for anything. We are offering our services and are hoping this is a way to get teens involved in our community. So far we have been fortunate enough to have the cleanup supplies donated to us with the help of Mike Mocciae and the City’s Neighborhood Improvement Coordinator,Dave Shockley. We will be holding fundraisers periodically to help offset the cost of the website and flyers and holding meetings etc. As soon as we are able to make 5013c status we will look into the fundraising aspect. However, for now we are looking on the kindness of community organizations to allow us to bring our meetings to the people. Many cannot go to some meetings because of transportation or other reasons so our mission is to bring it to them. We don’t have all the answers but with the help of the community we will explore any and all suggestions and help we can get to make a difference in our teens lives.

Flax Hill Park cleanup is Sunday, April 6, at 9am. just went to the website and after the cleanup they are having a teens vs adults softball game. Great way to get the kids and adults to interact. Wish other groups were doing things like this instead of just talking.Looks like NNHT is actually doing what they are saying they are going to do. I just signed up to volunteer

  • 11 I'm going! // Mar 30, 2008 at 12:39 pm

Yeah! Their asking that people go sign up to volunteer with their teens. This is a good way to get the kids involved. Turf has a link here to get to the site. The good thing is that its not one of those committees that preaches to the choir. Looks good from what I have read on the website. They even have a blog so parents and teens can discuss things. Haven’t seen anything like that from other groups.
