Norwalk: Public Power Authority Inches Forward

The world class second taxing district electric company requires new customers to go to their office to open an account. In other news, from the Hour:

In August 2006, the Common Council formed the committee to explore whether Norwalk should create a public power authority and perhaps try to buy Manresa Power Plant to deliver electricity to residents.

Five months later, four firms answered the city’s request for qualifications — demonstrating their ability to perform a feasibility study — to the Department of Public Works.

Condo Owners Need To Be Saved From Themselves

So, someone plunks down $400k on a condo and doesn’t check to see whether the condo association communicates what it does in writing? State Senator Bob Duff D-Norwalk and State Rep Mike Lawlor D-East Haven would like you to believe there’s a huge problem out there because condo owners might have to hire a lawyer to settle disputes. From the Advocate:

About five years ago, McGinness formed a coalition of fellow condominium owners from Norwalk and Stamford to push lawmakers to provide them more rights.

Typically, a condo owner with a grievance has no recourse but to hire a lawyer, she said.

Hartford Legislators Want Plastic Bag Ban

Up in Hartford, where not doing anything about property tax reform and balancing the budget for real has become an art form, they are discussing whether to ban the plastic bag. Needless to point out that Hartford is focusing on the the feel good–we’re saving the environment–spin instead of the economic impact of forcing small businesses like Chinese take aways, to buy more expensive bags. Economic impact studies are just so not part of the mindset of government in Connecticut.
