Brett Favre Retires

For you non football fans out there, this is big news. News that sportswriters have been obsessed over for the past three years, the age old story-line will he or won’t he. Well he did. After losing to the Giants in the NFC title game, most thought he’d stick around for another shot at a super-bowl, but alas, Favre decided that it was time to hang it up. I’ve never been a Packers fan, but to watch Brett Favre play QB was to watch the magic of old fashioned stellar football.

Every-time he played a down, you just never knew what was going to happen, because Favre injected that rapid fire gut instinct play that few have. With Favre you could almost picture that he was diagraming plays on the ground that involved nothing more than –everyone go deep and I’ll throw it to whoever is open– which sometimes ended very badly.

But that’s life and football, the big wins never come without a little dash of risk taking.

He’s been great but I’m bummed because Trish Yodice won’t be calling the traffic anymore on Channel 4 in the mornings. Unlike Brett, with Trish there was no warning.

Brett Favre is in the top ten of all-time QB’s. But he had a knack of throwing bad interceptions at the worst times. And he has had some bad playoff games. He is a gutsy performer on the field.
