Things look to be a tad more interesting on the State Senate Transportation Committee these days. The Hour reports;

The cause for a Super 7 highway found more prominent footing in a local lawmaker who will become vice chairman of the General Assembly’s transportation committee.

State Sen. Robert Duff, D-25, majority whip, announced the news Thursday he will head the committee but downplayed that particular cause — though his affection for it is well known — and said he would focus on statewide transportation issues.

“We need to address the issues that we currently face, including congestion and safety on our roadways, public transportation development and infrastructure improvement,” Duff said in a statement. “I look forward to working with the committee to help address these needs.”

Duff said he looked forward to “keeping DOT’s feet to the fire” and examining whether to split the department into two entities as an attempt to reduce bureaucracy.One of Duff’s most outspoken rivals on the Super 7 issue, state Rep. Toni Boucher, R-143, remarked, “We should have a fun time on that committee, should we not?”

After Duff secured funding to study the feasibility of Super 7 last year, Boucher said then that she hoped “Duff wasn’t expecting to get support from Wilton on any of his personal projects.”

On Thursday, Boucher seemed willing to work with Duff for the sake of public transportation.

“I hope that he concentrates on those mass transit issues that are very important,” she said.

Now maybe we will get more story lines along the Upstate Downstate Masterpiece Theater presents variety. And I hope that Duff plans to support the splitting of the DOT deathstar.

    State Sen Duff will do a great job as Vice Chairman of State Senate Transportation Committee. He is dedicated to the people whom he represents always has been and always will be. What should be done is extend route seven extention a futher more north and dump the trafic in the town of Wilton as they are the ones who are against Super 7. This has been going on long enough( I believe the early sixtes)a lot of property taxes were lost and pepople had to relocate along with many business of Norwalk because of the route Seven Connector Norwalkers paid thier dues and then some, Why stop the route Seven Connector at Grist Mill and dump the traffic here in Norwalk? Have we who live here in Norwalk not done enough? State Rep Toni Boucher R 143 said that and i quote ” Duff was`nt expecting to get support from Wilton on any of his personal projects” With all due respect State Rep Boucher i don`t think this is a personal project of State Rep Duff but it is certainly a project that will benifit the many people who travel every day to and from Fairfield County

    Though appliances bearing the label cost more — Duff said he shelled an additional $100 for his refrigerator — a complete switch to Energy Star products can save $80 per year in energy costs.

    come on Bob we are working on crime right now trying to steel headlines won’t work today

    #2 - Yes, but remember that Duff has staffers who make him - and others who came before - look good. That’s their job.
