Norwalk: Exclusive Coverage of Latest Wells Vs. Reality

January 23rd, 2008 · 20 Comments

What follows is the exclusive coverage of the continuing saga of internal Democratic party food fights. If only they could just get around to actually throwing food, instead of words around, this would be more exciting. But, I shouldn’t complain, I was graciously invited to attend the hearing and drove up with Mike Coffey and Dave Brown. So what follows is the hearing of Michael Coffey, Fred Bondi and David Brown versus the Norwalk Democratic Party

Another fine night for a Common Council Meeting. Full house tonight,

Moccia Serasis, Brown, Bondi Bolden, Conroy, Geake, Hilliard
Bonnefant, Kydes ,Lindstrom ,Hempstead, Straniti Krummel Sutton, McQuaid

They go through the excruciating details of Mr. Krummel correcting the minutes. [I wish they would send out the minutes by email before these meetings, and go through the corrections, and then do a proforma acceptance of the minutes since they already checked the minutes out.]

More Nanny-Statism; Teen Driving Under Attack

January 22nd, 2008 · 11 Comments

Nothing riles me more than the continued push towards the infantalism of society. Enough with the reactionary laws bent on shifting responsibility and accountability from individuals to the nebulous governmental behavior police. The Hour leads with the latest focus, on of all things, teen driving. Puh-lease. Bad drivers know no age, and as long as people are encouraged to view a car as a mobile entertainment center instead of merely transportation.

Those polled in the survey conducted by Gov. M. Jodi Rell’s Task Force on Teen Driving supported strengthening teen driving laws, toughening penalties for violations and increasing educational requirements for young drivers under 18-years-old.

Norwalk: Vets Park Columbian Festival In Doubt

January 22nd, 2008 · 48 Comments

Sure to please the neighbours surrounding Vets Park, the organizers of the Columbian festival failed to show for a hearing to discuss the permit for a second time. On top of that, Alexandra Fenwick’s article details that the organizers have failed to pay the city $5,400 in cleanup and police duty, which apparently date over two years. For some inexplicable reason, the park’s and rec committee keeps tabling the item. It would be understandable if the organizers contacted the parks and rec committee to request a delay on the hearing, but according to the report, no contact has been made.

CT DOT Broken

January 21st, 2008 · 5 Comments

The Courant reported the news coming out of the report on the CT DOT. Broken is quite the understatement and the consensus summary. From The Courant,

The commission concluded, in the words of member Larry McHugh, that the DOT is “broken.” Its report recommends about 30 immediate and long-term changes that members say will refocus management, make it more responsive to the public and reverse the low esteem in which the public holds the agency.

Parking Meters Sprout Up In Stamford & Bridgeport

January 21st, 2008 · 4 Comments

The Advocate leads with a story about the new parking policy in Stamford. Street meters are now being enforced till 10 pm, where previously they stopped at 6 PM. Needless to point out, residents and restaurants are unhappy about the situation. From the Advocate:

Signs are posted on the meters with the new hours, but Director of Operations Ben Barnes said the city will issue warnings instead of tickets for the first few weeks.

“We are going to go easy on enforcement for a period of time so folks have an opportunity to adjust,” Barnes said.

Norwalk: The Merry Wells Of West Norwalk

January 20th, 2008 · 125 Comments

The Mayor’s Ball Friday night offered up another chapter in the continuing saga of what can only be described as the night of the long knitting needles. The long and short of it? Tricoteuse Madame “Galen Wells” Defarge was busy scanning the 1000 plus crowd for the next name on her list. Her target, Councilman Mike Geake, who had to endure various attempts of exorcism by the embattled reign of terror making Wells.

Norwalk: Media, Murder and Mayhem

January 19th, 2008 · 163 Comments

Yesterday Norwalk was talking about the front page Hour story about Tykwan Hunt’s murder, specifically this part:

“The fact that he’s dead makes the city safer,”said one policeman on condition of anonymity. “If he had lived, he would have spent most of his life in jail. No one should be surprised by where this kid ended up. He lived like a gang member … he died like a gang member.”

Hunt is the second 17-year- old Money Green member to be killed, following the shooting death of Jeffrey “Big Al”Coward on Oct.31,2006.
