The business of voter registration is good, according to the Hour which reports registrars are seeing an uptick in voter registration. First the total numbers:

Currently, 20,525 Norwalkers are registered as unaffiliated voters; 14,182 are registered as Democrats; 9,550 are registered as Republicans; and 687 are registered as Independents. In addition, the city has 41 residents registered with the Green Party, 20 registered as Libertarians, and 10 as “others,” according to the registrars office.

Norwalk has about 85,000 residents.

Then the recent registrations:

Between Oct. 1 and so far this month, 940 Norwalk residents registered with one political party or another. Of those, 430 residents registered as Democrats, 352 registered as unaffiliated voters, 143 registered up as Republicans, 12 registered as Independents, and three registered as members of the Green Party, according to the Registrars of Voters office.

Back in late August the registration totals were; Democrat 13829, Independent 675, Republican 9525, Unaffiliated 20510 and other 71 which would indicate after comparing the two numbers that the Democrats have indeed picked up registrants, while unaffilated and Republicans have not.

The more interesting question is how many of the new party registrants did so because they subscribe to that party’s philosophies, and how many did so ’cause that party’s primary was the pool they wanted to play in.

The real question is, “How many voters have been disenfranchised” as the Frustrated Voter in the “Greenwich: Poll workers in short supply” string?

  • 3 Anonymous // Jan 30, 2008 at 11:50 am

You look at what the democrats offered here in Norwalk for a mayor even the council members kept their distance from him. This move even made the Dr look good.

play in or just want to belong to the winning team I question motives of lot of voters.

If any party in the city is pushing safety and quality of life in Norwalk they are certainly keeping it a secret from the rest of us. An Idependent stance may be the only way to go anymore when it comes to Norwalks politics.

Its shame with all this crime the city seems to seek leadership any idea when ours will show up?

    THE DEMOCRATIC BALANCE
A tension inherent in many democratic theories is that of balancing autonomy with discipline. On the one hand, a democracy depends on individuals capable of making independent decisions. We want individuals who can develop new ideas and who can articulate those ideas in the deliberative process. We also want individuals with an independent mind who are capable of judging an idea based on its merit rather than individuals easily manipulated by an elite few. Yet, in a democracy, once a majority has decided a course of action, it is then necessary for all individuals to abide by that decision. Consequently, we also allow the state to take disciplinary actions against individuals who fail to recognize the authority of the democratic state. If we over-emphasize autonomy, we may be encouraging rebellion, or, at the very least, noncompliance. If we stress discipline, we may have a citizenry all too eager to submit to the will of the majority. In either case, a democracy’s ability to sustain itself is seriously threatened. Therefore, the autonomy of the individual must be tempered by the democratic state’s enforcement of a certain degree of discipline

    is this balance in Norwalk?

Hey #4 (Greenpeace). I didn’t see you offering to run as a candidate for mayor. At least Briggs put himself on the line to run - that’s more than I can say for someone who sits around writing incoherent blogs all day.

It doesn’t matter what your party affiliation is or not, just get out and acually do something for the city. Volunteer, pick up trash, get on a commission, run for office, just do something!

  • 5 observation // Jan 30, 2008 at 4:09 pm

#4 sounds a bit testy, hate to burst your bubble but Mr. Greenpeace isn’t the only one frustrated by whats happening here and many of us are writing what you see on the blog because its the only place people actually listen. Everytime you don’t like what is said here you blame Greenpeace. Do you really think Mr. G is the only one who is observant? perhaps instead of finding fault with us you might want to do something productive as well. I notice how many times people say Mr. G rants but if you take a few seconds and read around the rants you will see there is good content and truth in what is said. We come from all sections of town to read this blog and to comment on it, because you don’t like what is said is not a reason to bad mouth anyone individual. You have absolutely no idea who any of us are here and you have absolutely no idea what we do or do not serve on or if any of us has run for office etc.

Greenpeace need to get his own blog. He posts all over this one repeatedly and hogs the comments with his rants. Once upon a time he was quaint and had some valid points to make but now he just goes on and on and on and on and on. Even #5 is obviously Mr. G trying to get us to believe he is someone else but the grammar and style are the same.

Turfie, how about a putting a numerical limit on Mr. G’s postings so we don’t have to suffer through his incoherence on every thread?

  • 7 Anonymous // Jan 30, 2008 at 4:20 pm

It is easy for you to attack Mr. G but is it because he tells the truth? Or is it that you just don’t really care what happens in S. Norwalk? Believe me, what happens in S. Norwalk affects everybody. Get real and stick to the subject.

I heard that they are going to bring back the Independant party. Maybe that is what the clerks in the Regitrars Office meant when they told Frustrated Voter to “wait, things may change” in the “Greenwich: Poll workers in short supply” string.

How awful, and illegal. I hope Frustrated makes a complaint about it to the Secretary of State’s office.

#6-you couldn’t be further from the truth. I am certainly not Mr. G but I am concerned with what is happening in this city and no one is listening. Maybe the long rants of those like Mr. G are what is needed for people to actually get interested. I must admit, sometimes he’s got me baffled but I actually go back to see what the hell he was trying to say. Guess what? It usually makes sense. I think we are all a bit guilty of ranting sometimes but if thats what it takes for someone to notice then I say rant on my friends.

Nu won kould kopy Mista G coud dey? One creative writing course on bad gramma could tern out a hole rume full copykats ,,,, :)

  • 10 Anonymous // Jan 30, 2008 at 5:14 pm

How do we know #6 isn’t Mr Greenpeace he or she does enjoy confusion. Loves to bait a thread and gets or gives input after he or she has received criticism.

  • 11 Nah // Jan 30, 2008 at 5:35 pm

#6 isn’t Mr/Ms Greenpeace, they are too defensive. Must be someone who got their tailfeathers in a bunch when they saw all the things we are talking about. Could it be someone who knows whats going on but refuses to address the issues that affect all of us? Perhaps they are the grammar police because instead of taking the comments for what they are they hone in on spelling and style. Go through this blog from top to bottom and you will note that people who write here have many things on their minds and type without spell check. Perhaps turf could put a spell check so we don’t look like we are uneducated. Some people speak without thinking and others type as fast as their brains put forth what they want to say and they just don’t realize until its too late to correct what they have said. All in all, whoever #6 is should look at these postings for what they mean and not as a personal attack.

  • 12 turfgrrl // Jan 30, 2008 at 5:45 pm

Nah: Turf uses spellcheck and we all see the results of that … however if you use firefox instead of IE, you will not only get a faster browsing experience, but also get spell check built into every site you visit.

    firefox

Before you new people register, watch this first:

    LOL!

  • 14 Anonymous // Jan 30, 2008 at 6:15 pm

Whether or not Mr. G has anything to say, I won’t read it because his postings give me a headache. It takes too much work to read what he writes, which is a shame because he does have valid points to make.

    To quote Shakespeare:

“…Therefore, since brevity is the soul of wit,
And tediousness the limbs and outward flourishes,
I will be brief: your noble son is mad…”

  • 15 Anonymous // Jan 30, 2008 at 7:28 pm

Perhaps Mr. G could tone down the rants a bit? Spread them out and let us all read them in peace without taking asprin when finished.

  • 16 anonymous // Jan 30, 2008 at 10:13 pm

    #13 - THAT IS HYSTERICAL!!!

  • 17 Anonymous // Jan 30, 2008 at 10:31 pm

yeah #5 “people actually listen”…and then what, they blog some more? Fat lot of good that is doing the city of Norwalk. Get out and do something!

  • 18 observation // Jan 31, 2008 at 8:46 am

#17-yes, there are some who are doing things and perhaps you might want to join them instead of putting down what people have to say. Blogging is only a start where people rant their frustrations. Now, if you take those frustrations and turn them in to positive action wouldn’t we all be in a better place?

  • 19 Anonymous // Jan 31, 2008 at 8:54 am

#18 - But it is so much more fun to put people down, rant and complain than to actually do anything real! And, #18, don’t we take our blogging so seriously - it is the highest form of community service - spewing our ideas out to the rest of the humble world……………..

  • 20 Bev // Jan 31, 2008 at 9:09 am

Making Norwalk transparent seems to work in some cases.

  • 21 Anonymous // Feb 1, 2008 at 5:34 pm

#20 If Norwalk was transparent, we wouldn’t have the secret and awful things happening here like we do. It is hard to turn a facist government into a transparent one.

  • 22 Anonymous // Feb 1, 2008 at 6:19 pm

simple example Mr Mayor just said on channel twelve :all the drive by shootings we have had” What the hell is he talking about? He is telling us we have more that on drive by? Everyone is always saying out here get your facts straight what about Dick does he know what the facts are?

If he does when are we going to find out after the next election?
