A party, a police report and a murder. The details reported in the Hour:
Police are investigating the stabbing death of a 17-year-old youth in connection with a raucous party in the area of Linden Street and Main Avenue Friday night that turned violent.
An employee of the McDonald’s restaurant at 340 Main Ave. called police at 8:14 a.m. Saturday to report a man slumped against a fence in the rear parking lot. When police arrived, they found Tykwan Hunt dead with a stab wound to his torso.
Police said Hunt lived in Bridgeport, but previously resided in the Washington Village public housing project in South Norwalk.

The impact of Stuart Opdahl knows no bounds. Schools have long served as recreation areas for local neighborhoods, and as we look at the Spring Hill requests for a park, we can see the heavy hand of Opdahl incompetence wielding its usual damage. Jefferson school sits in the area, overcrowded, falling apart and much needed in the neighborhood. Yet, it is the Jefferson funds that Opdahl raids to “cover” for his construction shortfalls, and it is Jefferson school that loses its atheletic fields for trailers and tennis courts for parking.

Westport is the site of a forum held by the State Board of Education concerning high school education in Connecticut. Seems like an interesting idea:
The forum will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bedford Middle School at 88 North Ave., Westport.
A Board of Education committee has called for many changes to raise standards and help students get more out of high school. They include a core curriculum of required courses and embedding communication and teamwork skills in the curriculum.
The committee also called for student success plans with career options and a senior year demonstration project.

Now this is an interesting development, Rell administration officials are conducting a nationwide search for a new CT DOT chief. The possibility that stellar dynamic and forward thinking DOT head might be hired have risen. There’s not guarantees that the candidate will come from out of state, but that alone would be a good thing. Meanwhile there are 50 other states that might have a pretty good DOT department. Close to home NY seems to do a good job, but a good look at Illinois, Washington state and Ohio might be an idea.
