From a press release:
The Southern Fairfield County Young Democrats will be having a meeting on January 9, 2007 at 6pm at the Silver Star Dinner. The meeting will run for 1 hour and will feature guest speakers on behalf of Presidential candidates Obama, Clinton, and Edwards.
Immediately following the meeting, at 7pm, will be a meeting of Democracy for America at the Silver Star Diner. DFA will be showing the youth vote documentary “18 in 08” by ’06 Weston High School graduate David Burstein.
Burstein took a year off school before going to college to interview a number of well-known politicians and everyday students to understand why young people don’t exercise their voting rights and to make a strong pitch for a more active involvement in the political process. “18 in ‘08″ is a non-partisan film featuring interviews with (among others) James Carville, Joe Trippi, Jeb Bush, Chuck Hagel, John Kerry, Chris Dodd, Joe Lieberman, and Chris Shays plus students of all political stripes. The message is clear — young people need to “overcome apathy, cynicism, skepticism” because 18-24 year-olds have “huge stakes in long-term issues of the future.”
After the film there will be a Q&A with Burstein, make plans for voter registration drives for students in the 4th Congressional District, and hear a representative of the Himes campaign.
