Part Three of BOE Discussions

We’ve got some pretty lengthy threads on BOE matters here. I’m adding this one for new stuff, or the continuation of stuff. I’m also working on solving the numbering of the comments problem too. In the meanwhile, I’ve tweaked the comments so that there are 30 on each page and that they are ordered from first to last, in stead of most recent. Let me know if there are further requests.

Bruce Morris Hours Still Unaccounted

Now that State Attorney General Dick Blumenthal has weighed in, Bruce Morris can breath a sigh of relief that he doesn’t have to pay for a substitute to cover for the hours that he isn’t working. Since no one on the BOE has seen fit to actually just ask for Morris to account for his hours at work during the legislative session, the silly requirement crafted by Jodi Bishop-Pullan has been knocked down. From the Advocate:

The Norwalk Board of Education decided over the summer that Morris - who has been the district’s human relations officer since 1998 and was elected to the General Assembly last year - should pay for a temporary substitute when he could not do his work duties.

Norwalk: Demo Delay Back At Square One Minus Key Improvements

In the continuing saga of trying to steer aggressive developers from taring down the few remaining quaint period buildings left in Norwalk, the ordinance committee has revisited the demolition delay ordinance. When we last saw this ordinance, Mayor Moccia essentially veto’d it by sending it back for review. And review was not quite what the new sessions’ ordinance committee managed to do. They chose to create something that essentially recommends a tax giveaway to people who file demolition permits. Why anyone would think that is a good idea is beyond me. From the Hour:

Shays Ensures $5.6 Million For Dredging in Norwalk

Yesterday the Congress passed a consolidated appropriation which included nearly $8.3 million in dredging funds. From the Hour:

The funding is part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act for fiscal year 2008, which passed in the U.S. House of Representatives Monday by a vote of 253-154.

“I am grateful for funding of key transportation, economic and social programs in Norwalk and our region,” said U.S. Rep. Christopher Shays, R-4, in a statement.
