Senator Lieberman endorses Senator McCain for president. In other news, the sun rises in the east.
Sen. John McCain, trying to keep momentum in this state’s critical Republican primary race, brought in something unusual on Monday — an endorsement from the other party’s former vice presidential nominee.
Sen. Joseph Lieberman, Democrat Al Gore’s running mate in 2000, said he had intended to wait until after the primaries to make a choice for the 2008 presidential race. But McCain asked for his support and no Democrat did.

The city of Norwalk has a great opportunity to self fund snow removal. A cruise along Water Street, West Ave. and Main Ave will reveal sidewalks that have remained un-shoveled since Thursday. What’s worse is that that many of these streets have bus stops without shelters. For Norwalk to truly act like a city that cares about pedestrians, we have to do a better job of enforcing clear, unobstructed, well maintained sidewalks. Fortunately most of the SoNo businesses get this, and Washington and North Main street were clear and inviting. But if you parked at the Maritime Garage, or in the parking lot in front of the Maritime Aquarium, you had to navigate through uncleared walkways as you headed to the retail stores or movie theater.

After November’s by-law improvements, December ushered in a new board of 18 instead of 33 for NEON. This smaller board is exactly what the doctor, that is the Connecticut Association of Community Action, ordered.
“There’s just a few who have been on the board forever and never wanted it to change,” he said. “People disagree and that’s OK, but obviously if you had a 33-member board and you’re cutting it to 18, not everyone can stay on it, so there’s some hurt feelings.”
Those who were ousted challenged the move to eliminate their posts, saying that the agency’s poorest, inner-city clients would lose representation.

Last year the BET did an admirable job focusing the BOE on reigning in budget requests and demanding prudent fiscal accounting. This year, the BET has decided that it would know better what the aggregate salary total should be. They are seeking a legal opinion on whether they request is possible. First, from the Hour:
n past years, Board of Estimate members assumed that state law precludes them from exercising line-item control over school spending. The newly found provision within the city charter now gives Board of Estimate Chairman Fred Wilms and another board member pause to ask for a legal opinion.
