For developing and passing the living wage and responsible contractor ordinances, the Fairfield County Building Building and Construction Trade Council awarded Mike Coffey 2007 Man of the Year. Statewide labor and Democratic political honchos attended the ceremony, and praised Norwalk, as a leading example of promoting fair labor conditions for workers. From the Hour:
“Every year the Fairfield County Building Trades pick a ‘Man of The Year.’ This person chosen exemplifies what we, the Building Trades, stand for, promoting union issues, involvement in the community, protecting the rights of all working men and women, fair living wages and benefits for all, to name a few,” said Kevin Byrnes, building trades president. “We are proud to announce that we have chosen you, Mr. Coffey, to be the recipient of the 2007 ‘Man of The Year.’”
Coffey received the award Thursday evening, during the monthly meeting of the trades council at Bridgeport Laborers No. 665 Hall in Bridgeport.
