After some upgrading issues, at long last, well, long for me, we are on the new site. There’s still some kinks to work out, so bear with me as I address them over the next few days. Thanks to all who provided early feedback. Please keep those suggestions coming.

So, do I win for getting the first post on this puppy? #1 BABY!

That was pretty quick there Andrew. :)

I’m always a day late dollar short in this case 10 minutes, looks great!

I like the list of “EDUCATION” topics on the right. What do I have to do to get a Common Council list?

  • 5 Andrew // Dec 3, 2007 at 1:31 pm

Preform a magic trick at the next Council meeting.

Congrats on the new site and I understand your 1st anniversary is coming up soon (the 5th); I think a party is in order at Fat Cat!

Oh boy. Is there any way to reduce the text size? I can just imagine the scrolling involved to get past Mr. Greenpeace’s next rant…

Nice look turf. I like the way you broke the threads into categories. Easier to find old links.

Nice Job! I need the bigger font size, must be my age/eyes aren’t what they used to be.

This might be localized to my browser but…
    1. When I click on “Archive” I get a 404 page error.
    2. Where is the “Search” box? Did my browser not load something or is it gone?
    3. When I added a comment, it showed in the recent comments box. I then went back and edited that comment after a couple minutes (GREAT feature by the way!)the comment in the actual thread was corrected, BUT the comment in the “Latest Comments” box remained the original text.

I’ve fixed the archive page and will see about maybe making the comments a tad smaller. To anonymous #10, the recent comments box needs to be reloaded for your changes to appear, while editing on the page itself is handled differently.

Now that I got the upgrade behind me, I can resume my normal posting schedule.

Andrew: is there something you’d like me to make disappear :o

  • 13 MGeake // Dec 5, 2007 at 7:44 am

    TG: you have a schedule?!?

  • 14 turfgrrl // Dec 5, 2007 at 9:37 am

MGeake: 7 days a week dude. Lately with the upgrade and day job, I’ve been slacking.

You used to have a search box in which you could put in a search string and locate the article/thread involed. I no longer see this, will that be coming back or is there another way to search for specific threads?

a few modest suggestions. Overall, great look and the tabs at the top make sense. Seems to me that what most people return to the site for are the new comments so how to give those more prominance? The right hand colunm seems cluttered and has stuff that might not be all that useful. Maybe clean it out by making some of the stuff clickable or mouseovers to access as needed — things like “recent posts”, “categories”, “upcoming events”, “calendar”, “sites we like”. Give as much real estate to the comments as possible — IMHO.

BTW, speaking of real estate, as chair of zoning, is it ethical for TG to take advertising from realtors on the site? Just asking…

anon for now: I’ll probably be tweaking the side column in a bit. There are some other tweaks that are a higher priority right now though. I have the recent comments as the second thing behind recent posts. My ego says to keep my list of recent posts top o’ the list, but we’ll see.

In regards to ethical advertising on the site, currently I have no relationship with advertisers that appear as part of the google ad sense network. Neither do I have any control of who is there. In the future, as I roll out localized advertising, it will be a case by case assessment of any potential conflict.
