We can also be thankful we have our firefighters on duty today away from their families, as I write this they are working in the city doing what they do best holiday or not responding to calls.Support their efforts they are always there for us.
Firefighters helping Santa deliver gifts
NORWALK — Would your children like Santa Claus to come to your house on a fire truck to bring a Christmas gift? Well, that will happen and it will be for a good cause, thanks to the Norwalk Fire Department.
The fire department is holding its annual Santa Claus fundraiser, which will raise money to help in the fight against muscular dystrophy.Applications may be picked up at fire headquarters at 121 Connecticut Ave. on Nov. 28 and Nov. 29 from 7 to 9 p.m.
The dates that the presents will be delivered is on Dec. 4, Dec. 5 and Dec. 6, starting at 6 p.m.
The department is only accepting 75 applications on a first-come first-served basis.
wishing all a safe and happy holiday.

Just remember our firefighters don’t only protect you on Thanksgiving but on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Years Eve and day. It is not easy to tell your young kids that you have to work on Christmas day.
These guys do it with out a complaint.
I might mention that the same holds true for our Policemen.
Thanks Guys.

#13 and Mr. Greenpeace you are both right. I have both departments represented by family members, we also have members of our family in Iraq please remember them. We have a nice prayer before our meal to remember all who are working. Have a Great Thanksgiving!

Don’t forget the food workers at Micky Ds, the gas station attendants, the Dunkin Donuts coffee women and all those grocery store workers. Just remember our these don’t only serve you on Thanksgiving but on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Years Eve and day. It is not easy to tell your young kids that you have to work on Christmas day. Really it is not.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all the soldiers men and women away from their families today and to our Firefighters and Policemen and women who won’t spend Thanksgiving with their families because they are working to protect our city. They’ve been busy today!
Can’t crime take a hiliday? Happy thanksgiving to all those who have less than we do as well. -
RE #5 “Don’t forget the food workers at Micky Ds, the gas station attendants, the Dunkin Donuts coffee women and all those grocery store”
WELL THE next time your house is on fire at 3 AM or someone has broken into your bedroom, call
MICKEY D’S -
Solved with a fire extinguisher and glock.

When I posted #1 I figured the woman who was trapped in her car waiting to be cut out of it was glad also the firemen were there to help her.
Firefighters used two
Hurst extrication tools to cut
the roof of a Buick LeSabre
to free its driver, Bruni Pietrina,
as it lay on its side on
Linden Street Thursday
morning.Like I said support the firefighters they got from the mayor and the council what they expected = nothing.

Greenpeace and Miserable - why is it you feel the need to trash #5 with your sarcasm? Did #5 say anything to take away from your request to remember the firefighters or police? Your comments are “miserable”.
-
#11-Mr. Greenpeace is right. The firfighters got shafted big time. Negotiations had just begun with only 2-3 meetings and it was hurredley pushed off to arbitration to avoid publicity during election time. The council voted on what was presented to them after arbitration. There was no way out onthat one for the council. This was a misuse of power on the city part to deny benefits that other city employees have and to deny time + 1/2 for overtime just like the other city employees have and how about not covering a firefighters family who has been huryt severely on the job and forced to retire at the age of 29 ony to find that if/when he gets married his wife nor his children will be covered. What about the fact that the city agreed to pay 62% of his salary as an early retirement package and renegged and only gave him 50%. Now do you know why Mr. Greenpeace said what he did. Don’t listen to what some people will have you believe. The firefighters did get shafted and were the ones that put the edge on the prior election only to be screwed when all is said and done.

Re #11 “Greenpeace and Miserable - why is it you feel the need to trash #5 with your sarcasm?”
So you think his post was not being sarcastic?
and that included his reply “fire extinguisher and a Glock”
Let me tell you both something. When that horrific accident left a mans body parts and intestines all over the Thruway for 12 miles, just who in the hell do you think had to pick up, bag, and wash the gore off the road? Was it anyone from Mr Wise ass anonymous posting. I DON’T THINK SO. I hate to hear this crap from someone who has no conception of the smell of a charred body smells like, or the smell of blood being washed off the road with a fine spray. Try using that fire extinguisher when the fire has spread, most total losses of homes and lifes in fires come from people trying to extinguish the fire themselves. Also try sleeping with that Glock in your hand every night, so you can be sure to have it ready if the intruder trying to break in has his in his hand already. Let me ask you to please do not use that phone next to the bed to dial 911. Get the phone book out and dial your nearest McDonald’s.
You have the nerve to call us SARCASTIC, because we unlike anonymous who lives in a fantasy world where you can fire your Glock and the slug does not pass through 4 walls and kills a family member in an upstairs room, or passes through an outer wall and kills a neighbor in his bedroom.
PS anonymous (the one man Fire & Police Department) is that Glock of yours a 9mm, 40 Remington, 10mm, 45 GAP, 380, 357 or 45 ACP, and do you serve and protect your neighbors also? If so please put in the suggestion to fire all NPD & NFD mem
-
SORRY I FORGOT TO ADD;
If so please put in the suggestion to fire all NPD & NFD members, and do the job yourself. I am sure the city will see tremendous savings in both money and lives, and the citizens of Norwalk will be eternally grateful for your lifesaving paramedic skills when answering all the emergency ambulance calls. YEAH, THAT IS SARCASTIC.

GP/Miserable - I have nothing but the utmost respect for firefighters, policeman, our troops and other public service officials - in fact, a number of people in my family serve as policeman, firefighters and currently in Afghanistan. #5’s post simply says to also remember everyone else who has to work on a holiday - working on a holiday sucks for everyone - and it doesn’t take anything away from policemen or firefighters.
I didn’t comment one way or the other on the firefighters union contract negotiations. I agree, you firefighters, particularly the ones still on active duty, got the shaft, miserable.
I’m sure that the people who work at Dunkin Donuts are also grateful for the support of firefighters and policemen. It’s too bad they have to work without the insurance and retirement benefits that you now enjoy.
Get over yourself. Instead of blogging all day long, get out and do something for the community or just get a life.
-
OMG. Can’t you people just say Happy Thanksgiving, salute all those who have to work on holidays? No people who work in retail or restaurants don’t risk anything more than a paycheck, and yes first responders risk their lives at a moments notice. But let me say that American society has messed up priorities when stores open at 4 am like today (black Friday) and people spend their time on a blog arguing about who does more for the common good.

Happy Thanksgiving turfy.
Go Pats.
-
Turf, totally agree….scary group! Hopefully, not representative of the entire population.
-
We should be grateful for all those who work on holidays so that we can have a happy holiday. And, by the way, those food workers don’t get paid very much for their efforts. I hope they, as well as the healthcare workers in our hospitals and nursing homes, were home in time for a lovely feast with family and friends. Shift workers don’t have it easy.
-
You are right Marie. There are many people who have to work on holidays, not just Thanksgiving. Retail is also one of those institutions that takes people from their families. Whenever we are together as a family, we should be mindful of just how precious that time is.
Thanks, Marie.
-
OK OK, Happy Thanksgiving to all who have to work on holidays.
PS
Hey Turfy stop bullying us. You act like you own this damn blog.
