Interesting make-up of players. I think it might be interesting in the next few months to see the events turn.

  • 2 Mary Pugh // Nov 7, 2007 at 6:19 am

I am very happy to see some Republican representation on the BOE. :-) I think the votes were also a “wake up call” to the Democrats who did get re-elected- they are not in Kansas anymore.

Now perhaps we can get a new chairperson (I think they rotate that position) and get some REAL discussion and DETAILED analysis going.

With 70% of Norwalk funding going to Education, IMHO this was the MOST vital of all the elections.

    Thanks to everyone who voted.

    Mary

    Hey, Mary

Maybe, you would like to see a republican win the State Senate seat too. Oh yea, Bob Duff is a Lieberman Democrat and your his brain.

  • 4 Anonymous // Nov 7, 2007 at 7:51 am

Those District E numbers don’t tally with the newspaper reports.

  • 5 GoodMorningNorwalk // Nov 7, 2007 at 8:25 am

Congratulations Andy Garfunkel. Great campaign and great job for six years. You deserve two more.

Glad to see that District C was smart enough to throw out Poruban AGAIN! Hope we’ve seen the last of him.

Board of Ed should be led by Bruce Kimmel. He is the only one who can lead and actually does his homework.

Council will now be led by Matt (blowhard) Miklave. Hot air 24/7! Too bad he wastes such a good mind being negative with no positive ideas for all these years. How long will it take for all the Dems to be angry at him? and, of course the unions already hate him.

Turffie, please give us the latest real numbers. Can’t trust those election night pre-liminary #’s…especially District E.

Well all you folks who kept up the “Laurel is Weird” BS might take notice that 1732 folks in District C, said “So Friggin what.”

She ran a damn good campaign considering that her party was in a shambles and kind of left her swinging in the breeze.

  • 7 #13 of the Miserable 25 // Nov 7, 2007 at 8:33 am

    PS
Congradulations to the Mayor, Nick Kydes, Mr Iannccone and Mr. Chiaramonte.

  • 8 marital woes // Nov 7, 2007 at 8:51 am

Nice to know that the Mayor reads the blog. Good thing he has the blog to work out his anger issues…

  • 9 Anonymous // Nov 7, 2007 at 8:57 am

Gotta blame criticism on a handy whipping boy, in this case it’s this blog, sure the mainstream Norwalk Horror sure as hell is incapable of being anything but a booty call for him…

  • 10 turfgrrl // Nov 7, 2007 at 9:08 am

The numbers posted above are the ones from the Registrars office.
  • 11 annoyed // Nov 7, 2007 at 9:14 am

    Turfgirl.
    Something is not right.
If you look at the Hour more people voted for Mayor (12,647) than the actual people who voted (11,510)

  • 12 turfgrrl // Nov 7, 2007 at 9:26 am

You can always look on the city web site.
  • 13 MGeake // Nov 7, 2007 at 9:28 am

Results are posted on the city’s website:

  • 14 #13 of the Miserable 25 // Nov 7, 2007 at 9:28 am

I would be remiss if I also did not congratulate Mr
Geake on his win, as I know he is a regular on this blog. We might even consider making him a member of the “Miserable 25″ and changing the name to the “Not so bad 26″

    Congratulations

  • 15 Michael Coffey // Nov 7, 2007 at 9:29 am

Congratulations to everyone who won yesterday. Turfgirl, thanks for all of the terrific coverage that helped many people make informed decisions about the issues that face the city.

  • 16 #13 of the Miserable 25 // Nov 7, 2007 at 9:33 am

I read that this was a terrible election turnout. I congratulate all on this blog especially the “Miserable 25″ as it seems that we may all complain and bitch about everything, but I bet ALL of us went out and voted.

We on this blog may be chastised as the “Gang that couldn’t shoot straight” but at least we use up our ammo on politics, which seems to me a good thing.

THANKS TURFY for this outlet for all our complaints, complements, and plain dumb and thoughtless insults.

You are to be congratulated for the amount of work you put into this site.

  • 17 Anonymous // Nov 7, 2007 at 9:36 am

Too bad too many dems remain on the BOE–we need transparency and fiscal responsibility on the board to offset spendhrift Corda.

    Lets see;

The handwriting is on the wall

All things come to those who wait

Rome was not built in a day

    Time wounds all heels

    Get the point?

  • 19 Anonymous // Nov 7, 2007 at 9:51 am

Time wounds all heels. I like that. Let’s hope that’s true in the case of the mayor, fortunately the public saw fit to keep the Council majority in the right hands.

  • 20 MGeake // Nov 7, 2007 at 10:06 am

    #14

So does that make me “Z”?

  • 21 anonymous // Nov 7, 2007 at 10:12 am

Low voter turnout, no change in make-up of council. Norwalk citizens are largely apathetic and the ones who aren’t and get out to vote like the status quo.

  • 22 District D Fed up taxpayer // Nov 7, 2007 at 10:13 am

#18–I hope I live long enough to see it happen–the taxpayer is saddled with a property tax bill of which 70% goes to education–too bad so much is spent on ADMINISTRATION and so little on TEACHERS.

Congrats Doug and Kelly on your victories–you are stand up citizens!

  • 23 Harry Patzer // Nov 7, 2007 at 10:20 am

The city website shows Serasis won in District A, but The Advocate says it’s Miklave who won. Anyone know which of them is joining Bonnenfant on the Council?

  • 24 Mr Greenpeace // Nov 7, 2007 at 10:24 am

#13 of 25 every post you have above has my blessings,
The gang who couldn’t shoot straight, good one :) Mike your where the residents need you to be,

Thank you for the outlet as well Turfgrrl,

Two teens assaulted on way home from school
The 13-year-old victim was allegedly punched in the face, police said.
One of the victims alleged that one attacker “took out a knife but didn’t do anything with it,” said police spokesman Sgt. Andre Velez.

“All three ran away after the physical fight” and didn’t take anything, Velez said. “We’re going to handle it and the schools are going to handle it.”

The Patrol Division is investigating the case and no one has been charged yet, he said.

In another middle school incident, a 14-year-old student was suspended for 10 days Monday from Ponus Ridge Middle School for bringing a toy gun to school.

Moccia was less kind to the
    local news, blog www.yourct.
    org, where postings are sometimes
    caustic.
“To those of you on the blog
    who have used character assassination
    and vitriolic comments
    … you lost tonight. Go
    back in your holes!” Moccia
    said.

Now this just tells you the blog was well read, and now we have yet another news source looking at this site as a local news outlet, yes the candidates have arrived but so hasn’t the Blog. Its here to stay and the thoughts, suggestions, concerns, and comments of credible people ( no not me I’m a hack and damm proud of it) are on file here on the record so anyone can go back and say look in the archives someone already pointed this out.

I guess if someone wants to run a city they have to be accountable. The blog has done and will continue to hold some responsible. The election is over but the blog has just started.

    my take on the election

maybe some of the residents simply thought
Better the devil you know than the devil you don’t know.

This is the modern wording of an old Irish proverb from the 1500s. The thought has remained the same, though the original wording back then was fairly archaic, but in modern times it is often shortened to just the first part of the phrase, as in “Better the devil you know…” Or “I’ll stick with the devil I know…”

with a new council of sorts maybe you can teach a old dog new tricks.

Crime is my biggest concern, where I have over 20 family members here in the city I have 19 more times of a chance that one single resident of being effected.

Now back to my hole for now yesterday was not my concern the here and now today and tommorrow will be my focus.Lets work with what we have or in some cases what we don’t have.

  • 25 MGeake // Nov 7, 2007 at 10:28 am

#23 my guess is the media gets no “vote” in the matter. I do know that there were multiple recounts last night in the very close races, so I’m taking what the city posted as gospel.

  • 26 Highland Ave // Nov 7, 2007 at 10:34 am

These numbers don’t include the Working Families tallies…?

  • 27 Harry Patzer // Nov 7, 2007 at 10:40 am

The figures above quoted by turfgrrl do include WFP votes.

  • 28 Harry Patzer // Nov 7, 2007 at 10:44 am

    MGeake,

Thanks for taking the time last night to explain the way a Norwalk Power Authority might work. I must admit I was a bit skeptical about the idea, but am now much less so.

Congrats on your win (and to all the other winners). Norwalk is very lucky to have you on the Council.

  • 29 Vet Park Junkie // Nov 7, 2007 at 10:46 am

ENrwlker, your forecast on the results was darn good.

  • 30 confused // Nov 7, 2007 at 10:53 am

Can someone tell me how the people in this city could vote to keep those bozo’s on the BOE. I thought we had intelligent people in this town. Well, all I can say is I am glad Chiarmonte and Iannacone got in. I don’t see them sitting quiet on the sidelines.

Too bad the information of the ballots was kept quiet until after the election. maybe then Andy wouldn’t have gotten re-elected. Three years in a row he has made a mistake with the ballots and don’t believe the papers because it wasn’t human error it was neglect onb his part once again. Too bad Joanne didn’t run a nasty campaign like he and his assistants did then maybe things would be different.

Still strying to figure out if Miklave won or Sarasis, looks to me as if its Sarasis since he also got 72 working family votes as well.

I thought Briggs would have eeked out a little bigger margin and I thought the Repubs would pick up at least one or two seats.

Good thing I’m not a bettin man, I’d be broke today!
