Nothing like getting above the fold first page publicity the day before an event. Well, I can safely say the word is out about the debate which means we should have a good crowd, plus the media. We are also providing food, in the way of snacks, which was a generous donation secured last night. There are many committed citizens pitching in to bring this debate to you and we’ll be putting up the thank you list shortly.

Norwalk: Are There Womens Issues?
October 26th, 2007 · 46 Comments
Tomorrow the Democratic women will gather on the green at 1 p.m. to discuss women’s issues.
“We have a woman’s point of view on issues such as child care, care of seniors, economic opportunity, health care, education … I know these issues are of concern to all of us in this city but they especially concern women — (particularly) the women on my ticket — and they reflect the Democratic (perspective) of caring about these issues,” said Councilwoman Gwen Briggs, a District E candidate.

Norwalk: The Insanity of BOE Incumbants
October 26th, 2007 · 77 Comments
The Board of Education is broken. It was clear last night that the Corda happy speak club wanted nothing to do with actually talking about the biggest issue Norwalk faces. The incumbents called for higher standards. Riiiiggghhht. Nothing like calling for a senseless measure when nothing gets measured. The challengers all see the problem for what it is, and each described the impact of allowing a bureaucratic monolith to spend unchecked.

Norwalk: BOE Debate Roughly Speaking
October 25th, 2007 · 11 Comments
This is a rough rough draft of the debate. Most people spoke to fast for my typing tonight. Sorry about the paraphrasing and the lack of commentary, but I’ll put it all in perspective tomorrow.
—-
Here we are at the BOE debate, and frankly its depressing. The audience can be described as political flunkies, other candidates, BOE members, PTO members, the high school class that has to be here and about 12 other people including the press, which includes me.
Onto to the opening statements.

Norwalk: BOE Debates Tonight
October 25th, 2007 · 34 Comments
All of the debates, this one is the most important. Why? Because close to 70% of your tax dollar goes to the BOE and up to now, your BOE members have chosen to provide no oversight, no guidance and no accountability to the administrators who spend the money. Ask any teacher and they will tell you at least 5 ways to save money in their school. And they’ll tell you that while bringing in supplies on their own dime to make their classrooms brighter, functional and educational.
If you believe in holding elected officials accountable please show up at NCC tonight at 7PM.

Norwalk: The Klondike Park Battle Debris
October 25th, 2007 · 1 Comment
Actually, its not quite the Klondike Park debris but rather the Wall Street Bridge debris and then some. Apparently the sub contractor was told/allowed to dump debris on Smith street, the street that runs along the river off of Wall Street. This street abuts Mill Hill, so naturally the people who work hard to maintain those properties were dismayed to find so much trash, after they spent the spring cleaning the area up.

Norwalk: Here Ye, Here Ye
October 24th, 2007 · 6 Comments
The call was heard, and now we’re on. This Sunday, at 2 East Ave., otherwise known as The Town House on Mill Hill, the common council candidates (as many as we can round up) will be debating the burning issues of 2007. That’s right, another debate, all the candidates in one room with a bunch of questions that weren’t asked at the last debate.
DETAILS:
Sunday October 28th 2-4PM
So spread word and come and here what they have to say. We’ll be updating the site here with more details, but hot off the presses, our flyer:

Norwalk: Bruce Morris Can’t Park
October 24th, 2007 · 24 Comments
When Mayor Moccia took office one of the many things he did was designate visitor parking in the City Hall lots. That way, city employees aren’t competing with visitors when it comes to parking spots. I was surprised to find Bruce Morris’ car parked in a visitor space.
This can be either one of two things, Bruce Morris considers himself a visitor to City hall and only intends to park at most 2 hours. Or Bruce Morris thinks he is entitled to park in visitor spaces because the rules don’t apply to him.
BOE, are you paying attention?

Norwalk: Their Finest Hour
October 24th, 2007 · 70 Comments
Last night’s common council meeting was looking like it was going to be an exciting one. It was the last council meeting before the election, and so all the committees were busy wrapping up the things that needed wrapping up and more. The reality facing this council was that not all members were coming back, some by choice (Coffey, Romano and Grant) and some by voters choice.
