Actually, its not quite the Klondike Park debris but rather the Wall Street Bridge debris and then some. Apparently the sub contractor was told/allowed to dump debris on Smith street, the street that runs along the river off of Wall Street. This street abuts Mill Hill, so naturally the people who work hard to maintain those properties were dismayed to find so much trash, after they spent the spring cleaning the area up.
Emails were exchanged between the Nowalk Historical Society and DPW, and which I found skirted the real issue here. Why is a City of Norwalk contractor allowed to dump trash on city property? Surely if they were hired by DPW they would be given a permit to take the trash to the dump? If for whatever reason the stuff isn’t trash, but take a look at the pictures, then why leave it strewn over a 100 foot path? What happened to neatly piling stuff for future use?
Smith street has been closed off for a number of years. Now that CL & P uses the street to access their water tanks, which btw are neat, clean and fenced off, there’s more traffic going up and down the street.
Lets see some accountability out of the Common Councils Public Works Committee for holding DPW to some sort of professional standards when it comes to oversight of sub contractors.
