Governor Rell has released a statement, according to the Courant:

“Our drivers deserve the reassurance and peace of mind of knowing that our bridges are routinely inspected, maintained and kept as safe as possible, ” Rell said in a prepared statement.

The state’s 10 deck truss bridges - similar to the span that collapsed in Minneapolis - have been found to have “no major issues” following recent reviews or re-inspections, Rell said.

The state’s 10 deck truss bridges - similar to the span that collapsed in Minneapolis - have been found to have “no major issues” following recent reviews or re-inspections, Rell said.

Christopher Cooper, the governor’s spokesman, said Monday he didn’t have the results of other bridge inspections conducted over the past three months. The results of the full inspections may be available as early as today, Cooper said.

So 10 deck truss bridges have been inspected and fond to have no problems but the full report hasn’t been released on the rest of the 561 state’s bridges.

Of Connecticut’s 5,189 bridges and structures, such as tunnels and pedestrian overpasses, 1,238 are maintained by municipalities.

DOT is currently interviewing and hiring the 81 new engineering inspectors funded in the state budget.

“Maintaining and inspecting our bridges are two of the most critical functions the state performs on behalf of the motoring public,” Rell said.
