Chris Caruso who lost the September 11th mayoral Democratic party primary in Bridgeport has a penchant for repeat behaviors. It was not too long ago, 2003 in fact, when he lost a mayoral primary to then candidate, now mayor, John Fabrizi. Then, Caruso refused to believe he lost fair and square, and then he filed a lawsuit alleging all sorts of thing that were responsible for his loss.

Norwalk: Jazz Festival Prompts Ugliness
September 26th, 2007 · 44 Comments
Matt Miklave and Kevin Poruban apparently waited till after most of the press left last night’s common council meeting before launching in to a personal attack on a fellow council member. On a routine motion to approve the permit for the Norwalk Jazz Festival for use of Vets park in 2008, both Poruban and Miklave chose to fling accusations of corruption and malfeasance at Herb Grant. The thing was that Grant, was not in the room to defend himself, since he had to recuse himself from the vote.

We Have An Obesity Problem Houston
September 26th, 2007 · 2 Comments
The New York Times recently ran a story on the cup cake saga, that delightful little cake that drives school boards across the land to ban these little frosted topped confections from the classrooms, cafeterias and bake sales. The obsession with childhood obesity has nothing on the real threat to the free world, obese tractor trailer trucks, more commonly referred to as overweight trucks.
And the Greenwich weigh station is the place to be, when its open, to see just how many trucks crash the scales. According to the 4,500 rucks passed through the Greenwich weigh station over the past 4 days, and one truck managed tip the scales 40,000 pounds over the weight limit.

Norwalk: Council Action Last Night
September 26th, 2007 · 6 Comments
The Council took a short agenda and made it longer last night. I missed the meeting, but will read through the Hour reports to get a flavor.
Last meeting there was much gnashing of teeth over delaying the vote on the contractor chosen for the Reed Street Extension. The City’s law department reviewed the bidding process and selection and then stamped its legal approval. THe council then voted to authorize the contract award.
Matt Miklave called the PoKo Partners conceptual site plans for the Wall street area redevelopment project innovative, and the council voted on awarding the land disposition agreements too. That plan moves on to zoning, and thus I will be getting off this commentary train.

Brilliant: Solve A Mystery At The Wadsworth
September 25th, 2007 · No Comments
Since the threads today have devolved into the surreal I bring you something else to think about. A new exhibit opens at the Wadsworth in Hartford this Saturday. The novelty to the exhibit is the idea that a puzzle game can liven things up a bit. So, along side the more stodgy, “Fame and Fortune: Five Centuries of European Masterworks”, you have also “TO CATCH A THIEF.” Museumgoers get to solve a puzzle as they view the exhibit.
To solve this puzzle, a would-be Einstein Anderson must wander through five centuries of art searching for dragons and knights. For angels and skeletons. For faces and animals.

Today I’m working behind the scenes, in the green room, underground, in the conservatory with Professor Plum and the lead pipe. There’s many things to ruminate about, like how it is My fantasy football team has the second highest point totals in the league, yet I am 1-2? I’ve lost the last two weeks by a total of 3 points. Sometimes life is just like that. At least I’m not a Saints fan.

Norwalk: Golfing On A Field of Mixed Greens
September 24th, 2007 · 4 Comments
No the mesclun is not the issue here, but hydration is. The Oak Hills Golf Course has been hydrating its fairways with pond water. But the pond is not enough water to keep the grass green. So, the next best thing that was tried was hooking up the pond to the city water system. But, for a number of reasons, the CT DEP was none to happy about that.
Two months ago, the Water Resources Division sent the Oak Hills Park Authority a consent order telling the golf course to “immediately case such (water) diversion until such time it obtains property authorization.”

Norwalk: It’s Gonna Be A Revolution All Right
September 24th, 2007 · 3 Comments
Norwalk is about the size of Manhattan, they both are 22.7 square miles, (’kay Norwalk is really 27.8) which is to say that large Chicago style and large New York style pizza are the same size. But I think about that often as I drive around town, past the boundaries that once defined the the three towns that joined together in some sort of land use civil union back in the day.
The New York Times ran a story today on the changing West Village, an area unlike would could have been urban renewalized yet instead has gentrified to the extent that even the first waves of gentrifiers are priced out of their history.

Norwalk: Candidates, Candidates, Candidates
September 23rd, 2007 · 95 Comments
Both parties had over 100 people turn out to celebrate, motivate, deviate, its not to late to donate. The Republicans lucked out with a gorgeous Sunday afternoon out on the Norwalk Inn patio. A live Salsa band played several sets and everyone who attended had a chance at several door prizes. No political speeches, interrupted the GOP gab fest, but the Mayor had a solemn moment when he recognized Steve Thomas, a longtime party member. Grilled steak, chicken, burgers and hot dogs were the courses. Later, the roast pig became the butt of many jokes.

Looks like another beautiful day out there. Over the next few days this site will be undergoing some renovations. A new design and more importantly some new voices. They’ll introduce themselves at somepoint, and I hope you all give them a warm welcome.
The comments, as always, are yours to discuss whatever. Feel free to make site suggestions too.
