Nationally, Congressional Republicans Are Broke

Chris Shays must have been thinking about this when he floated out his “give me a chairmanship or I quit” demand a few weeks ago. This being the reports that are scuttling many plans to for Republican congresscriters to fund challenger campaigns.

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) reported $1.6 million in cash on hand and $4 million in debts as of Aug. 31. The group helps bankroll House campaigns for GOP candidates.

Its counterpart, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, reported $22.1 million, more than 10 times its Republican counterpart.

Campaign finance experts say the latest numbers portend an ill future for GOP candidates, particularly newcomers who haven’t had years in office to build up a war chest.

"If there’s no money in the bank, it’s going to be hard to take seats away from the Democrats," said Massie Ritsch of the Center for Responsive Politics, a Washington, D.C.-based campaign finance watchdog group.

Things aren’t looking so good for the Senate Republican coffers either, the same report cites $7 million in the bank to the Democrats $20 million. The national parties themselves show a different trend, the RNC has raised $57.3 million to the DNC’s $36.8 million, but that might just be a reflection of presidential politics.

This is what happens when you put [fill in the blank] Party politics ahead of [fill in the blank] principles. Gone are the days when people blindly voted a party line — they want representatives they can trust to uphold the principles they believe in.

I’ll fill in the blanks: 1) men’s room stall; 2) corrupt. The voters have already decided. Good riddance to the GOP and it’s “Contract on America.”

Ah, but that is Republican Party Politics and Politicians, not what the Republican Party has [said it] stood for over the years.

I am a Democrat not because of what the party and its leadership says or does, but because its principles are more in line with my core beliefs than are the Republican principles.

The rats are fleeing the ship of Republicans. We’d see more of that here locally, except the rats are just as large in our leadership. I say get rid of them both.

Sure, right after we get rid of them rodents in the Democrat local leadership! Give me a break.

How right you are anonymous Dem … the head rat, Galen “hottie” Wells and her rat pack Poruban, Morris, Wien and Andrews should be tossed over board. What a pathetic display for her “blog team” to pump her ego by posting about her “beauty.” Isn’t there an election campaign to be more concerned about?

its not a grant but when lets say when things get sold or built in Norwalk wouldn’t it be nice if we could get perks like this? or even like this?

of course we don’t see 50 million dollar deals everyday..

Campaign. It’s the only thing the GOP knows how to do because they sure as hell can’t govern. Pretty sad when they’re reduced to things like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmcUFF9aUAo

Democrats only know how to tax and spend. Let’s total up the taxes and fees that Alex Knopp brought in and how he spent the money on giveways to his cronies.

  • 10 MGeake // Sep 27, 2007 at 2:50 pm

Let’s compare the record surplus that that “tax and spend” Democrat Bill Clinton left with the record deficit — high than the cumulative total of ALL PRIOR DEFICITS that the “fiscal conservative” George Bush has given us!

  • 11 Another one of the 25 // Sep 27, 2007 at 3:47 pm

Mike, are you conceding the Knopp fiscally irresponsible years?

  • 12 John H. // Sep 27, 2007 at 8:09 pm

Alex Knopp ran a fiscally responsible government. To state otherwise is false and outrageous. The man is not running for public office and has devoted much of his life to public service. This attack is shameful.

  • 13 Anonymous // Sep 27, 2007 at 9:55 pm

That’s right, “the fees” for sewage and parking that were raised under Alexander the great knopp are not taxes. Alex Knopp and the bobblehead dems raised fees but not taxes. Sounds like a shell game. When is a tax not a tax. That’s right, it is a fee. Do you dems think all of us Republicans in this city are fools ?

Well, you voted for George Bush, didn’t you?
