The CT jurors who shirk their duty really tick me off. Trying to get out of jury duty is a sport for people who think they are so important that they can’t possibly put in the time. Now I’m mad at the system too - no consequences to blowing it off?

Since it is open thread Tuesday I just have a few things to state…..Thank you for providing us with the websites of the candidates it was very informative. I just have a few things to say about Joanne Romano’s site. I find it very interesting that the women is running for an office and doesn’t know what her role would be. For the record it is the City Clerk’s Office (Mary Roman) that keeps the minutes of all council and comission meetings. (Isn’t Ms. Romano a council member?) Does Ms. Romano know how to use spell check? Maybe she should find out. And lastly what is up with the bio page? I didn’t realize she was the Town Clerk for the city of Norwalk. Sorry for all of the negativity just tired of candidates thinking that all they have to do is win a popularity contest in order to qualify for a job.

#1, you must be retired or a state employee. For those of us who are self-employed, a call to jury duty is equal to giving up our income for however long the state decides to keep us. The ridiculous stipend of $50 a day doesn’t even come close to covering the time lost.

If someone from the Town Clerks office doesn’t like Ms Romano that’s just fine, however Mr. Garfunkel knew absolutely nothing about the office before being elected. At least, even though she may have made a mistake on that item she knows the general workings of the office. The only reason why Mr. Garfunkel won that election is because Alex Knopp swept that election and ousted all but a few Republican’s. Otherwise he’s still be be building roofs and stages.
As far as the popularity comment and winning elections you might want to know why Ms. Romano is so popular, its because she does her job and goes the extra mile for all. She is always there when you need her, so if this is a bad thing so be it but to be downright rude is another. -
To Mr/Ms snaggle tooth- Love the heading! My site says candidate for Town Clerk. I am still working on it and thank you for the heads up on the Council and Commission minutes because in many towns across the state the Town Clerk certifies all meeting minutes and keeps these records. I appologize if I made a mistake. Sorry you are not a fan, but I really wasn’t looking for any fans because this is not a popularity contest it is a political position that I chose to run for and the outcome will be based on whom the voters choose. I am also sorry if I missed something in spell check but I will get on that right away.

Ms. Romano seems like a nice enough lady, but is totally unqualified for the position of town clerk. Mr. Garfunkel has proven his capability. Ms. Romano has not.

To number 6 and others, Ms. Romano is just as qualified for the position of Town Clerk as Mr. Garfunkel was, if not more so when he took office. He knew nothing and had to find his way around. Don’t let people fool you when they say the office runs smoothly because this is not true. There is tension and rudeness and we have seen more of Mr. Garfunkel now since Ms. Romano announced her candidacy than we ever have. He has had nothing but controversy with employess that more than a few have quit since he took office. We are never sure who will wait on us. So if we are going to make comments then they should be fair and balanced. I will agree that he followed through with projects implemented prior to his election and has given us more space to work in but to read that he is the saving grace of all Town Clerks is pretty far fetched.

Mr. Garfunkel has been doing a great job since 2001. Anyone who wants to campaign as if its still 2001 shows just how much Republicans want to return to the do-nothing years of Frank Esposito. Keep up the good work Mr. Garfunkel, and ignore the trash talking here.

The only one talking trash here is #2. The rest are just stating what they know. Why is it that when a republican wants a position of importance do some feel the need to destroy them? I am sure Ms Romano is aware of how hard it is to unseat an incumbent and she is still willing to take the chance and for this I give her credit. She has done an excellent job for the city over the years, we as voters recognise this and appreciate her efforts so why try to trash her now just because she is going for something she feels she is qualified to do?

15- you are so right. apparently people on this blog believe elected positions are meant to be life long and that no one should have the audacity to challenge an incumbent. Would everyone be making these rude comments if Ms Romano had decided to run for council again? The voters decided that the Town Clerks position should remain an elected position and therefore everyone has a right to vie for the position. Again we feel the meed for personal attacks instead of the facts. I for one feel she would be an asset to the Town Clerks office and on November 6th I will be voting for her as will many others. If enough voters feel she is right for the position she will win, if not Mr. Garfunkel will have the position for 2 more years and then someone else will challenge him. This is not a lifer position.

She serves and donates her time because she cares. She, and others like her, obviously do not do it for the money as they are hardly paid “gas money” to bring them to and from the many nights of meetings.
