2010 is a ways off, but the Hour has an interesting story about the potential candidates. Current occupant of the Governor’s office Jodi Rell,while having high approval ratings, is not expected to run in 2010. This might be wishful thinking on the part of many seeking the office or supporting those that might be.
Lt. Governor Michael Fedele is mentioned as proposed Republican candidate. Early on it seemed he would have high visibility as Lt. Governor. But, despite his efforts, outside of political junkie circles, he remains an unknown.
Perennial potential candidate, and current Attorney General, Dick Blumenthal is often mentioned in Democratic flunkie circles. Many have doubts about whether he’s run, like Professor Gary Rose, chair of government and politics department at Sacred Heart University, quoted in the article:
Rose said he is weary of counting on Blumenthal to run for governor, as every time democrats raise their hopes for Blumenthal campaign he deflates them by announcing he will not run.
“Maybe he will actually run,” said Rose. “It’s been about three elections in a row where his name is at the top and he says, “No” because of family matters.”
The more interesting item in the report is that Dan Malloy is not only keeping the fires stoked for another run, but artfully weaving the narrative should he run a primary challenge.
Malloy said he cannot disclose his future political aspirations until the presidential election finishes, as the outcome of the presidential election will determine the democratic strategy.
“I’ve been through these cycles quite a bit,” said Malloy, “and, in a presidential cycle, so much energy and so much time goes into that cycle that it really takes everything over.”
DiNardo said Malloy could potentially take the election.
“He ran a great campaign last time and he certainly would make a very viable campaign this time,” she said.
That narrative being, Blumenthal is a guy who has more of a DC political flunkie job in mind rather than a strong desire to run Connecticut.
The copy editing over at the Stamford Times/Hour really was asleep at the switch on this article, allowing State Democratic Party chair Nancy DiNardo to be referred to as DiNaro and many odd quotes such as;
“In Connecticut, you might think the democrats have hand but” and “excellent speak skills.”
I have great sympathy for those that mangle the English language, but a newspaper has to do a better job than this, for if I can find these, there must be more lurking out there.
