Fairfield County Dissed By Hartford

Brian Lockhart has a good report on the latest round of Hartford area flunkies overlooking Fairfield County. He lists four:

Earlier this month, state officials announced a public hearing in Stamford on efforts to reorganize the Department of Transportation, just 48 hours before the event.

“This is extraordinarily short notice,” state Sen. Andrew McDonald, D-Stamford, said at the time.

Then the state Department of Public Utility Control announced a series of hearings next month on a proposed rate hike by Connecticut Light & Power. Fairfield County was left off the list until The Advocate ran a story last week.

Gov. M. Jodi Rell’s office, in two announcements during the weekend, also left out Fairfield County.

Rell’s office Friday announced it scheduled identity-theft workshops in Wallingford and Enfield for later this month after the theft of a state laptop computer that contained the names and Social Security numbers of 106,000 taxpayers, some from Fairfield County.

Yesterday, Rell’s office said a hearing has since been scheduled in Norwalk for Sept. 28.

Fairfield County was left off another statement Rell and the Department of Motor Vehicles issued over the weekend announcing increased truck safety enforcement.

The funniest part of the article:

Jepsen said traffic congestion in Fairfield County poses a problem for scheduling visits and hearings.

“Folks from upstate dread trying to drive down to meetings,” Jepsen said.

Uh yeah, like traveling over the “Q Bridge” is all congestion free. Or I-91 isn’t a parking lot north of New Haven and through Rocky Hill up towards Hartford. Traffic congestion is a problem throughout the state. Having area political flunkies that wield clout would go a long way towards setting the agenda, and for years the Fairfield County delegations have been content to do nothing but rubber stamp upstate agendas.

I think we in South Western Connecticut pay the lions share of taxes to the state coffers. It is time we started to kick ass and take names. For decades we have been getting the shaft while upstate gets the gold. There is a lot of truth in the old saying “The gear that squeaks the loudest gets the grease.”

Can we hear an “Amen” to that?
