Seriously, is this a town that loves its self?
-
The city was working on a drain on Seaview Ave that had collapsed, and they cleaned up the 10 or so bottles from the Festival visitors in the storm drain next to it.
-
yes the bottles were corona’a and the litter is all the way to the bridge where the park benches are along the walkway, wrappers, diapers, bottles and trash.
-
not from the fest
-
good evening I just took a ride down call it a follow up to the thread,,whats in the picture is still there by the tree sign and all the trash, walking towards the bridge I saw barrels full of trash they were green and the walkway to some memorial was also littered all the way to under the bridge.
then to my amazement at 7:30 pm I was stopped by three males that came from a wooden deck at the end of the parking lot and was asked if i wanted to buy some reefer I said my friend Dick might want some I’d go call the hall he hangs around and tell him its available. They said sweet,, meanwhile I’m thinking how many of them I’m going to have to take out while I make it back to my car.Simply shows its worth getting the facts.
you know this city like all cities have their problems but when a resident simply goes down the street and finds himself in an area that honestly is now littered with undesirables maybe its time to address the trash that is now walking aound, and forget the festival leftovers either way noting is going to be cleaned up.
No joke tonight what I am saying if that is part of East Norwalk i would think about cleaning up more than the ground, the stores are now attracting kids to a point i won’t go in the conveniance store anymore and have now stopped buying anything in that block of stores,I’m that uncomfortable bringing my kids there.
but its only me that sees this stuff correct?

Greenpeace, you should try living in South Norwalk - the real South Norwalk (not SONO) ..makes East Norwalk seem like Greenwich! But, I appreciate the diversity and the funkiness of it all.
-
Mr. Greenpeace - it is not only you that sees this. It is a bad situation all over the city. Even the formerly “safe” areas are now littered with trash and undesirable characters. Do I feel safe on the streets of my hometown? No way.

Its a damm shame, if we can see this and write about it how hard is it for the news hounds to find it and report on it..its every where you look isn’t it?
Its election time , we will here the words crime, manpower, firefighters, DPW, trash, parking,BOE , the list goes on but can they themselves put this together to what we are talking about out here?
I have always said put a picture with a story and people start to get it, they reconize the site before the story sets in, they go and see if things change,,
we were told that the green house on west street would be boarded up after the last gas main break 4 weeks ago by city officials has it been? No why not? who is to answer for this? simply makes a vacant house dangerous to the fire dept you know the guys who are our first string, front line , the best damm group of guys with no city support,,would this happen in other parts of the city a house left like that? I guess its trash too isn’t it and its like the rest like the picture above its left for all to see like some urban run down slum where no body cares,,looks good coming off the highway front door open windows popped out a positive welcome sign to the city for sure. what a image we have like that logo right?

MAN REMAINS IN HOSPITAL AFTER GROUP BEATING now its a South Norwalk problem again,,sorry east Norwalk you can rest easy its on our side of the bridge. I’m not blaming the police chief the mayor or anyone else I’m shouldering some of the blame on this one I reported to numerous reporters of both the Hour and the Advocate that people were living in Oyster park. I was asked if I had pictures? Short of luring them out with a dozen doughnuts for a photo op I said no.I guess its not a story unless something like this happens.Another great story for our tourism office to tout,,I guess with election time coming soon limited space in the news will prevent much more of this kind of reporting to continue,,that will be good the bad things of the city will stop they won’t be able to report them.
where all the new people who are moving into the new apartments next to the aquarium who have no clue what our city is all about, the rental agents have done a great job, talked to one new resident that has decided to move in the spring out of Norwalk his car has been vandalized and broken into twice the first week he was here and continues to be asked for money when he goes to work in the morning, feels this is no place to live he said,,he and his girlfriend have no kids which is typically the new makeup of tennants who enjoy the lounges and resturants and movies in downtown SONO.
welcome to Norwalk we are on the move

You are on my favorite topic…trash on the streets. I walk a lot in a “very nice” residential neighborhood and am appalled at the garbage along the sides of the streets, on the sidewalks and on the edge of private property. The slobs who throw litter out the car windows are bad enough, but the property owners should be out front, especially on Sunday mornings, cleaning up the mess…bottles, cups, cigarettes, fast food containers and other unmentionable items. It makes your property look trashy and for some reason you don’t seem to go out and even look at it. Trash invites trash and it only gets worse.
Some of the trash is caused by home and business owners not using proper recepticles. So when the trash haulers “pick up” there is still trash left behind on the street, curbsides and in the gutters.
Can’t we show some civic pride and keep the streets and our own front yards clean?I still think the city can take a lead and start a “don’t be a litter bug” campaign. Anyone else old enough to remember that slogan? Maybe if schools taught this level of personal responsibility and dovetail it with lessons on the ecology, we can create more responsible citizens for the future.

Here is the coup de grâce. I was walking under the railroad over pass on East Ave this morning and sitting on the stone abutment were 2 Styrofoam dinner trays each with the bones from a couple of 1/2 chickens. Can you imagine people stood there and eat their meal then just left the open plate of half eaten chicken right were they finished it. NO I did not pick up that stinking mess, I left it right were it was. I am getting sick and tired of cleaning up after slobs. Cleaning up after them is just reinforcing their “Pig Sty” mentality. It is getting out of hand. The fine for this crap should be increased and enforced.
-
I left the diapers on a park bench ,must of been triplets.

You sound really proud of yourself. Were they your DEPENDS?

Stop blaming the Oyster Festival for the litter..I don’t know how to break it ti you but the bottles in the pic are corona and Poland spring water. The oyster festival did not server either of these items. They did serve beer and water but not these brands…The problem is not the Oyster Festival, it is the slobs that litter.
-
The problem is not the Oyster Festival, it is the slobs that litter.
That is exactly the point we have all been trying to make. These pigs would do the same thing if they were standing in a sterile operating room.
-
#13 no I saw them there , it wasn’t me god knows I have some respect for the city, #11 said he left someones food there , as I did the diapers
-
#16 sorry for the misunderstanding. Maybe they left the diapers there because they were too busy eating the chicken and just didn’t want any more to carry. They would fit perfectly in a mid evil city during the dark ages. They they could just throw their filth out their windows into the street.
It really will take a concerted campaign on both Channel 12 and the local papers, to get to these people and let them know that what they are doing is wrong. That might work unless “they live the same way in their own homes, apartments and yards.”
You can put lipstick on a pig, but it is still a pig.

It is 5:30 on Tuesday 9/18/07. I get out of work at 6:30. At 6:30 am going to go over to this Oyster fest litter area and clean it up myself. If anyone complaining on this blog would like to join me I will see you at 6:30.
-
excuse the typo at 6:30pm I am going…

Just came from there found trash picked up very little left up to the bridge but someone was there before me along constition park they did a nice job but the sign and the bottles are still were still there. who ever you are my hats off to you.I picked up rolling papers an candy wrappers..
Now that we cleaned up around the park what about under that side of the bridge? If anyone cares this much about trash what about the existance of many homeless people in the park what is more importanat trash or guys like the one who was alomost beaten to death while Norwalk is on the move?
Mr mayor?
-
I just remembered that yesterday I noticed a group of teenagers who were cleaning Liberty Park. I guess that they were working for the city. I think that tomorrow I will take a walk under the Strofolino bridge and tell the residents there to please pick up after themselves.
-
be careful #13 I found a dozen under the other side by Constitution park tonight they have it all set up as front room or a den, they use between the steel and cement to store their possesions,,a sad site when I came back out and went to the street a suv passed with a plate that said ct leg 140 must be a politician on his way home how fitting he drives over them each night suppose they don’t vote do they..
Its all so real when your out on the street seeing this and to think when East Norwalk did so much to the park over the years did they ever think it was going to used like this..
Go take your a look and see what is going on under the bridge where some of the touble is coming from and the suffering then go home and forget about it everyone else does.
-
State Representative Bruce Morris
Democratic legislator representing Norwalk’s 140th Assembly District. … -
well then Bruce Morris you drove over a very sad situation tonight , it appears it will be there in the morning when you go to work.
Thanks #23
see this blog is full of information by people who know. Now how do we get this info to Bruce Morris?
-
Mr. Greenpeace thank you for coming down to help pick up trash yesterday. Sorry I missed you. Where was everyone else?
-
Remember the Farmers Market is open today!
-
I see no one wants to get to the root of the problem. You can clean up one area today and go home feeling good but there is no change in behavior of our citizens. More needs to be done and we need leadership in Norwalk, not stop gap measures. When do citizens stand up, take a position against litter and make the effort to change behavior, starting at the level of setting a good example for the children.
I know it is extreme, but some one should be looking at the peer pressure applied in Japan. They recycle everything and neighbors don’t let neighbors get away with litter or inappropriate recycling. How many homes in Norwalk even abide by the basic recycling ordinances and garbage ordinances on the books now? We have large garbage recepticles with advertising. How about recycling bins as well. (BTW there seemed to be only garbage bins and no recyling recepticles at the food area of the SoNo Arts Fest. What’s with that?)
Since city hall has no particular interest, DPW does nothing to enforce even the basic rules. Public and political pressure must be involved. That means you and me. Someone needs to make this their cause - citywide. Citizens can make a difference. We can have a clean and shining Norwalk to be proud of. Pitch in!
-
#25 thank you , it seems that you did more than the talk, everything was gone its clean but I have some thoughts on the park.It was nice to ride by and see a clean corner , yet to go back today and see along the park last night throwaways..so yes we have a on going problem other than our city leaders.
East Norwalk should take another look at..maybe that can be another thread.Suppose who put the memorial in figured someone would take care of things along the walk with park benches..
so is just another issue the city needs to address or is it the end of the complaints?
-
” When do citizens stand up, take a position against litter and make the effort to change behavior, starting at the level of setting a good example for the children.”
and the first step to citizens standing up and setting a good example happened last night.
