The Norwalk Police nabbed another bank robber, and volunteers will crawl the Saugatuck River amongst others to catch bugs as part of a DEP data collecting program on September 29th. The info desk at the Norwalk court house and dispensing information and at least one band-aide, and Chris Shays says he won’t run in 2008 unless he gets a chairmanship, so there. It’s Hispanic month, Captain Rosemary Arway and Lieutenant Thomas Kulhawik will be named Deputy Chiefs and the police department gets accused of covering up the death of a 6 foot 5″ elderly man with a walker. The comments are open for the rest of what’s happening.

I still see the truck vs elderly man as a terrible tragedy, and believe it was just an accident. A further investigation may be necessary.
What worries me on another truck incident is that there was the second tractor trailer accident on the CT Thruway in our area in 2 days. What is the problem with opening the Greenwich Truck stop? After the crash and fire at the Exit 16 toll gate it took no time for the legislators to eliminate the tolls for safety’s sake. Now it seems no one cares about letting trucks past the heaviest traveled truck stop in the state. What gives, is Greenwich waiting for an 18 wheeler to crash into the middle of town?
Who the heck is dropping the ball on opening that truck stop at least 5 days a week?
Will this end up as usual with a terrible truck accident and then all our legislators tearing their garments and wringing their hands saying “How could this happen, what could we have done to prevent it?”
You know the old “knee jerk” reaction.

I agree the truck stop should be open 24/7. However, even with the truck stop open, it probably won’t prevent truck accidents. One of the biggest problems is the trucks getting cut off by cars, who think the trucks can stop on a dime. Commuting to Stamford every day, I see this all the time. If they allowed truckers in the third lane, a lot of these mishaps would be avoided. Truckers on the most part are very professional and safe drivers, but as in all professions, there are some that push the rules.

its odd but while we talk the emts are called to yet another accident on 95, last night we saw a truck get hit and lose a fuel talk almost over the Norwalk river, firefighters out on the highway all the time and then we have the Merritt the firefighters are busy all the time I trust the council knows this I keep asking for the fire log to be published it will show us all we have more than enough reasons to simply give the firefighetrs what they need, and wanted
you all realize they the local 830 not the city is applying for a federal grant to man the new heavy rescue for things like RT95 themselves ,,I was under the impression the firefighters and not the mayors office was doing this for the city could be worth what they were looking for in thier contracts,(the grant),it would be bittersweet if we get the grant from them and the got the shaft from us,,
I could be wrong on the events I just described , but seriously I am usually right if I wsn’t why would the news hounds use the same facts and figure most of the time,,just know this stuff because i am exposed to this stuff..I se what most don’t I talk to others who do know,,hearsay? maybe maybe not
any idea how the new truck is coming for us I’d like to see it soon in a station and not in an article to read..
never read anything on that boat fire, or the injury on the high school field,,not that I need to read it but all of us need to understand what goes on in our city,,this blog works

No Mr Greenpeace you are right on !!! one of local 830 members wrote all the grants that the fire dept has received in the past two years not the grants writer at city hall!! So even though they get shafted the still care about our community. So lets Send McCarthy back to westport.
-
maybe tell that to the news hounds not that I’m right but there is a story before election time that puts the thanks on the shoulders who carry Norwalks pride the most not city hall.
could we get local 830 to give this blog a news release , I know turfgrrl is a pro at what she does ,I respect what she does , but would a press release from the firefighters be accepted or could they just send in or post on something that is created for firefighters.
I don’t think waiting for the news hounds to report this kind of stuff happens enough ,they seem to enjoy press releases, things fed to them,
no that doesn’t mean all news hounds, there are times both the Advocate Citizen and the Hour does hard hitting news stories but waiting for them to spit one out once in a while for a city this size is like watching carrots grow, what is out in the open doesn’t reflect whats growing out of sight here in Norwalk.
I have been sending out news releases on grants to others who are nameless, they know what the real deal is but are unable to ask or act upon news releases why not?
this is all sensitive stuff its party related stuff at elcection time and when I find stuff it isn’t politicaly motivated its people motivated the residents need a voice this blog does it.
Yes we have had grants but so havn’t others billions have been spent this year, Ny rejected two helicopters to fight fires with that may have saved the life of the last two firefighters who just got killed at the old WTC, now they are asking for the chief to resign he made the call.
so we have had grants so hasn’t other cities but they still are getting more what about us , we do count don’t we>
I’m leaving another grant list read it and wonder why not Norwalk after the last round , see who gets what and how much do the math population, land size , highway or rail, industrial complexes.

just got back from Mcmahon school , I attended the celebration of sound held in the field tonight.
I have to admit for someone who never saw our Norwalk High band play I was impressed beyond the usuall rant i could give,
First the Port Chester band took the field after our own Mcmahon, Ponus and Roton schools all together played the opening America the Beautiful.
then came our Norwalk high band what a proud moment for any Norwalk resident , then as they were done they came off the field and then stood to watch the band after them then again our own Mcmahon band play. The band director should get more than just credit for his band but to see such respect given to the other bands after they were done standing along the fence was what I could only describe was moving.

#4 The Truth. I for one wasn’t aware of this either. My hat goes off to the good fellows at the NFD. You mentioned the City Grant Writer…I don’t remember her name. But I was under the impression that she was going to have money rolling into Norwalk. Has anyone heard anything about how successful she has been in bringing grant money to the City? I hope she has been. I think that it would be a great idea to hear from Tom Hamilton on how well we are doing, on what we have applied for, what we have received or are waiting to hear on, etc. It does seem odd to me that we hear and read alot about all the other Citys in CT receiving grant money, but Nporwalk always seems to be left out. And if we are going after these grants and being overlooked for some reason, maybe our elected state and fed politicians need to assist us?
-
not for granted, look at those links I provided a colledge just got over a million dollars because they applied you can’t get unless you apply and to be honest with you the fire has applied but more applications for the same things enhance the chances, see if everyone applies with facts from more than one source it only makes sense it is looked at with more of a sharp eye..stand in line but get there when the line wraps around the buidling well then wait for a number.
proactive at election time is helping the fire police or us the residents, yes we are seeing grants checks and improvemnts but so isn’t Iraq. What about us?
-
Mr Greenpeace - I don’t think I understand what it is that you are saying, and I’m sorry because I do read most everything your write in about. Is it a college that got a million dollars? NCC? Then you say something about not getting a grant beacuse you don’t apply, or wait in line. I’m just not sure. Are these grants that Norwalk hasn’t applied for, or ones you know about that were late? You say we are seeing grants checks and improvements but so isn’t Iraq. I’m a bit confused. Sorry!

I had posted a couple of interesting articles from cities who got over $100,000 grants to man departments with personal they needed, but the cities would not back creating the positions beyond the grant so some fire chiefs have simply denied the grants.I may of not fully described what was written but it was the principle of it.
It was suggested if the fire dept applies it would be a plus if the city endorses creating the positions on top of the grant an incentive to receive the grants.
One college on posting #8 recieved 1 million dollars on research , take nothing away from them but our own Norwalk hsopital has made over the years some landmark develoments but i saw no where in Ct including our own area hospitals mentioned as well.
The grant program has its faults and short comings but if we don’t apply and keep providing data beyond the first round we are possibly losing funds.
maybe another frustration is when we get grants some say I still complain, but if you read the what is given for what reasons be it population, mass size, commercial or rail or interstate or amount of police and fire calls or even size of departments the numbers never seem to ad up in Norwalks favor,,besides I have never seen more support given my cities like Bridgeport, Stamford or Hartford ect there are what ten major cities in Conn and where do we sit on received funds? just in conn alone
Its frustration that we don’t seem to get, maybe I should adopt the at least we get but I see accross the board facts not just what i read in firehouse or the agency in Quincy Mass,,but over all assistance ,maybe I read too much,,
out here even we have number crunchers who make sense and there not even fire service savy and they send out postings on how much more we need compared to others and i agree with the numbers,,,wsh I could find some of them I missed pasting them for later sorry
i probaly didn’t answer the confusion but I did try and give you my mindset,,I just want before the well drys up ,, I’ll try and revisit this later , I actually time this week to rant..
