Bridgeport: Mayoral Primary Today

September 11th, 2007 · No Comments

State Senator Bill Finch and State Rep Chris Caruso vie in the Democratic primary to determine who will be anointed running as the Democratic candidate for mayor this year. Apparently the primary has been so boring this year that there are rumors that John Fabrizi is planning to jump back in the general election. For those unfamiliar with Bridgeport politics, Fabrizi running would be the appetizer to Joe Ganim coming back for another try.

What If Scenarios, Can Fairfield County Evacuate?

September 11th, 2007 · 7 Comments

The Advocate has a report on evacuation plans. I’ll summarize the answer to the hypothetical question of could Fairfield County evacuate in a mega disaster. No.

Questions remain about how lower Fairfield County residents could be evacuated to neighboring New York state. And many state and municipal officials question their abilities to move people on Interstate 95 and the Merritt Parkway - two roads that are congested on normal days.

Snider is not deterred.

“I thought it was great. It was warm . . . and the Village People were an overwhelming success,” she said, referring to the festival’s headline musical attraction.

Now let’s think about the timeline for a minute. The rail cars were something that the Governor authorized in 2004. It’s now 2007. The CT DOT is saying it will take $628 million, not $300 million to:

Norwalk: Master Plan Headed To Council Floor, Sort Of

September 11th, 2007 · 36 Comments

In today’s Hour article about the Master Plan, it seems that council members have opinions about it that sort of puzzle me. For instance, Bill Krummel to The Hour: “I’m concerned about the objective of encouraging a golf driving range.Where else would it go other than in Oak Hills? And the Oak Hills mini-master plan said the community had rejected a golf driving range at Oak Hills. What community group would encourage a golf driving range. It’s a bad idea to put it out in the master plan.”
